This was bound to happen, and it's nothing new.

It is certainly beyond foolish for a potential transplant recipient to not take the COVID vaccine, however the prospective donor is not looking to give her kidney elsewhere, so if the recipient were to die or reject the kidney, this doesn't affect anyone else on the transplant list.

Unless the hospital is mandating that all elective surgical patients must have had the vaccine, I don't see why the hospital doesn't just test the donor like every other patient.

That being said, the transplant/vaccine policy has to be consistent to avoid the same issue going forward for cadaveric donor transplants to indeed keep a nonvaxxed recipient from wasting this resource.

I haven't looked into it, but what religious reasons are people claiming to not take the COVID vaccine? Does this religious exception apply to all vaccines or just COVID?

It's pretty remarkable to me that one would choose dialysis with its very real complications over taking a vaccine.

MANY doctors will not replace a joint on a smoker with an artificial one because it will get infected. I know this from very personal experience.

Come to Greenville. If you have a pulse and haven’t had an above the knee amputation, there’s a TSA approved joint waiting for you.

If it’s a hip or shoulder prosthesis, having a pulse is sufficient to qualify for surgery.
