Interesting That Watson Has Not Been Used Much on Designed

Sep 30, 2014, 10:21 AM

Run Plays With The Frequency Boyd Was Used. You Could Almost Always Count on Morris Running Boyd Over Left Tackle When We Needed 2+ Yards. I am Betting By Season's End Watson is a MONSTER Once He is Running The Full Playbook.

Exactly. Deshaun will never be able to take on the role of power RB like Boyd could because he will not have the size. Even if he gets up to 225 in a couple years with his extra height he still will not be able to get the same leverage Boyd could on those short runs. Which is why we must have a RB step up or find one that can gain those 2-3yrds when the game is on the line.

I don't know. DW is not that much taller than TB. Cam Newton
had some extra height and was heavy. That's probably the reason
that he has not been banged up as badly as RG3 in the NFL.
Not saying he has been consistently healthy. But the more
he bulks up, the better he might be. He may end up being a better
runner than Tajh.

They are already two completely different runners, and as a Fr. Deshaun is already the better runner. A natural dynamic runner you try to get in space and when you have a bulldog(TB) you bang it when you need the tough yards. Remember thinking Boyd was gonna change our program(and he did), what in the world is Deshaun going to do for this program? Excited anyone?

Watson is playing more like a mobile QB than Boyd

Sep 30, 2014, 10:35 AM

Boyd's runs were simply called runs where he was basically taking the spot of RB. He was not looking to throw when he ran the ball.

The difference in a true mobile/running QB like Watson is even when he takes off to run his eyes never quit looking down field and he will throw the ball anytime.

Although Boyd's runs were great for gaining short yardage when you really needed it he hurt us often by giving up on the down field pass and tucking it instead of keeping his eyes on the receivers. If Watson played like Boyd and ran as soon as he got in trouble against UNC we don't win that game IMO. His ability to escape and throw instead of escaping to run is what will take us to the next level.

True and DW has already run out of bounds right

Sep 30, 2014, 10:39 AM

at the first down stick more than Boyd ever did.

Bring back Tracy Johnson...... he NEVER missed getting a first down on 3rd down with 2 yards or less to go in his entire career at Clemson.....

That is what we need.... of course the O-line has to get nasty

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Designed or not, he sure has been scrambling a lot.***
