Interesting that Saban hires new support coaches yearly and

Jan 1, 2023, 11:13 PM

still goes to CFP as much as Clemson, takes players from the portal, keeps recruiting #1 class 7 of last 10 years and finds this ok since he wants the best with him to win another Natty.

At 72 the Coach is still futuristic & a Realist even more to the times.

Will Dabo ever follow his successful lead?

IMO, got to admire Saban for constantly evolving. He is the GOAT.

Dabo has done it before (evolved) earlier in his career and is starting to do it little by little again. Hope it continues...wish he wasn't so stubborn. Stubborn can be good---up to a point. You can keep culture and make subtle changes. Staring to see that happen although results aren't always apparent...

My advice: watch what happens and pay less attention to what CDS says. Some changes has already occurred, more is coming.....

Streeter is back. Period.

As is Goodwin.

I think the biggest concerns in the program are obvious. But no changes have already occurred.

Didn’t Coach Swinney just hire new coaches this past offseason?

Clemson hasn’t used the portal as much or had as highly ranked crootin’ classes but still finished ranked two spots behind the elephants at the end of the regular season.

How many nattys has Nicky won since the introduction of the portal and NIL?

What changes have been made or are you referring to coordinators last year?

Coordinators last year.

A bit of tongue in cheek.

Bill comes and goes with the tides. You’ll get used to it.

I noticed that too.

Is he bipolar, trolling, or flipping with the level of rum? Cool dude, just wildly inconsistent.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Saban isn't firing people to hire new ones.

They bail out.

Dabo is different from Saban with equal credentials.

Why mess up a successful formula?

Through 14 college seasons? Dabo’s is almost inarguably better.

Poor Brad. He's been handcuffed for 13 years.

Saban had to build a program from the ground up while everything has been handed to Dabo.

It’s weird that you guys willfully bash our coach. Through 14 seasons as a head coach they have the same numbers of national championships while Dabo has a boat load more wins and conferences titles. Then count record versus ranked teams, etc.

Jan 2, 2023, 12:48 PM

Dabo is 20 years younger than Nick, he's been coaching for 20 less years than Nick, he's been a head coach for 150 less games, he had to build Clemson (i.e., NOT as easy as Alabama), and yet he's STILL THE 2ND BEST COACH IN THE CFP ERA.

Seriously man, what's wrong with some of you zero-logic dudes? There's ZERO shame I saying Dabo hasn't yet reached Nick Saban.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Interesting that Saban hires new support coaches yearly and

Jan 2, 2023, 12:04 AM

Alabama didn't go to the CFP in 2020 nor 2023. Your logic is flawed.

There are 125 schools in the FBS. Of that, about 20-25/year have a chance at making it to the CFP. 121 WON'T go to the CFP - every year. (Until the expansion occurs.)

Clemson folks have got to ask themselves if being a top-25 or top-10 team is not sufficiently successful and making it to the CFP is the only acceptable definition of success even though, every year, the odds are against it, why make the attempt at all?

It used to be that winning was fun. Now, apparently, it's a chore. It used to be that losing created the perfect balance with winning. Sufficient disappointment that was often buoyed by a joyful ratio of 2 or 3 to 1: 8 wins, 4 losses; 9 wins, 3 losses. The outlier, for most of those 125 FBS teams is a 10-11-12 win season. Clemson has had 13 consecutive 10 or 10+ win season and, in that time, has won 10 post-season games.

Yet, the collective wisdom on this site is that we're in decline and the end is nigh.

Should we not be disappointed when we lose? No, be disappointed. It's normal. Should we dispair, rend our clothing, and tear out our hair? Most assuredly not.

Listen folk. We probably only have a few decades left before the apocalypse. Shouldn't we try to enjoy every day and moment?

Jan 2, 2023, 4:48 AM [ in reply to Re: Interesting that Saban hires new support coaches yearly and ]

Clemson football, but although I despise losing, I don't flail myself ready to jump off a cliff with a doom and gloom attitude over losses.

I accept that coaches are fallible and will make mistakes; that players will sometimes fail to live up to their talents; that we won't win every game, occasionally losing those that we shouldn't. I believe our staff is in need of adjustments, as are certain players. But we have a Head Coach who is paid a lot of money to make those decisions with an overwhelming majority of our Clemson family, including me, strongly supporting and remaining confident in his abilities to guide our program.

Many years ago, my own Mother cautioned, "You're trying to beat a dead horse to death. Leave it alone and go about your business!" Of course, she was right, and she wasn't a person you crossed! lol

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess the problem is when you see things so obvious

Jan 2, 2023, 11:34 AM [ in reply to Re: Interesting that Saban hires new support coaches yearly and ]

Like DJU continuing to play and costing us the SC game, 0 use of the transfer portal, hiring coaches that we’re your roommates, or former players that have 0 experience in coaching or a coordinator that has never been an on field coach, or constantly offering players that are kids of former players and using 5-7 of these scholarships each year on players no one else in power 5 recruits. Clemson doesn’t need to do that.

If you have read this far, for me that is all frustrating because I believe we should have at least beat SC and made the playoffs this year, not sure what to say about last year. But I do feel it will be all
Ok and shake out in the end because he is a competitor and will find a way to get these guys to a high standard. I just wished we could get more finished product types like UGA and Bama are getting. It takes time for half our recruits to get to that point which makes it harder too. Dabo is great for our school, his arrogance and off the wall comments (see burger flipping and TN) are frustrating some times but we should be fine.

Dabo has a couple of original sins. I would suggest the first would be drop the arrogance and grab a little of the humbleness that got you to the top. This boat don’t look right.
