Venable's absence from the sidelines this year. Remember him? The best D-coordinator in the game. The guy who held Jawja to 10 points.
All the media seems focused on DJ's success (as he goes, we go). Can he turn it around this year? Will his weight loss help him turn things around? Or will our young 5* QB from Texas be the answer? Etc., etc. Nobody is talking about Venables and just "assumes" we're going to be awesome on defense (again).
Granted, we need elevated play at QB and WR this year if we are to return to "elite" status---nobody disputes that. But the lack of discussion about our new D Coordinator is kind of puzzling.

Do you not see the guys Clemson has returning on that defense? Venables also didn’t coach the ISU game and the defense looked the same. What is there to question?

Huge loss, but we have had great recruiting on that side of the ball, pretty good depth. I know for sure what will be missed most was BVenables pressure. Took calculated chances on 3rd downs. Great coach, never easy to replace that. But I definitely have faith in this team. Sky’s the limit if DJ lives up too his potential. Go Tigers!

The offense gave up the pick 6 +1. The BV led defense only gave up 3 pts.

Because everyone knows our defense will be stout and if our QB can play ball we can win it all. I expect improved Online and WR play. But QB play is the monster in our room. That's the reality of Clemson football. It's up to DJ to change the narrative we shall see.

Side note: At SEC Media Days they are asking Fake Death Valley Tigers "ABOUT THE REAL DEATH VALLEY TIGERS"!

Yep, I don't put to much stake in what the coordinator does as long as he has really good coaches that's coaching the most of the guys playing on whatever side of the ball. They work in groups, and they play as one group, so we should be ok on the defensive side of the ball as long as we have good leadership on the field that knows what going on, and they can lead!!!

Idk. I have this feeling that Wes was far more involved in the success of the defense than even we know, but yea, CV will be missed. He ran a good ship.

Wes will be a more cerebral QB than Jimmy Greenbeans. Definitely won’t be running the option. A good thing Paul Johnson and that thing is gone.
