I think Colorado made a mistake.

It will be interesting to see how it goes.

I don’t think so

Dec 7, 2022, 9:44 PM [ in reply to Re: Interesting Take on Deon and Colorado... ]

This was a program completely dead in the water for years. Deion joining them alone has created much more buzz around their program than anything since the 90s.

Their Instagram follower count has more than tripled since the announcement.

Even if he completely crashes and burns, can it realy get any worse than their 1-11 season this year? They have nothing to lose really.

Except the opportunity to hire a good coach who could actually fix the program.

Not a good take. These aren't employees. They're student-athletes on scholarship.

I'm glad we have Dabo instead of that guy. Anybody else remember when Clemson recruit Jake Nicolopulos had a stroke and was never going to play a snap at Clemson? Dabo not only honored his scholarship offer. He went to his bed at the hospital and insisted he Jake sign his letter-of-intent with Clemson.

Their scholarships are guaranteed

Dec 7, 2022, 8:59 PM

unless they choose to enter the portal. There's really nothing Deion can do about that. That's how it is at every Power 5 school. Most scholarship players choose to transfer when told they won't be seeing the field, though, because they want to play.

I thought scholarships were technically for one year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The Pac-12 has guaranteed them for 4 years since 2014

Did the rules change? Scholarships at one time were year to year.

.

Yes, several years ago. Pac-12 changed their rules in 2014***

Portal schollies are good for the athlete’s remaining.

Eligibility. Rule went into effect in August 2022.

I admit I didn't watch the whole video, but I watched enough to know I'd rather my coach come out and say if you want to be here we'll look at you but if you don't then get out of the way so we can find out what positions we need to address. I don't think any coach worth his salt would want to handle it any differently. Some have issues with his character or whatever, and that's fine, but as a coach of young men who is trying to build something I think he sent the right message. Get with the new way the new coaching staff are going to run things or see ya later. I hope he succeeds in Boulder, I just don't want him anywhere near Florida, he has too much pull to swing young recruits attention from our Tigers.

I think Deion's end game is Florida State. Once he has some success at Colorado, which make no mistake about it, he's going to have success. You can't bring in all those playmakers that he recruited at Jackson State and not be more successful than 1-11.

I think once success in Colorado starts happening, if Florida State is still mediocre or just better than average then Florida State has a no brainer decision.

There are good reasons to dislike Deion

Dec 7, 2022, 9:01 PM

but I don't have a problem with what he said in that meeting. Besides, it's nothing that plenty of other coaches haven't said before in private.
