Interesting numbers regarding OL recruiting for FSU, Bama...

Nov 19, 2013, 3:53 PM

and the Tigers from 2007 (Sabans first year) thru 2013 according to Rivals.

Team Not Ranked 2-Star 3-Star 4-Star 5-Star
Clemson 0 0 14 8 0
FSU 1 5 17 7 0
Bama 0 0 15 8 3

Obviously Bama has out recruited us here but not as much as you would think. FSU has higher numbers but clemson has recruited on the same level (per rankings) in this time period. I think we are close to having a consistent O-Line but we also need a next level RB (Ex=Tyshon Dye)that we do not have this year. Just some food for thought.

Ellington is an NFL caliber back (as evident on Sundays)

our OL has been average for awhile.

In truth, so has FSU's OL but I think that is one of their

Star rankings arent everything.

Some two stars going to have NFL careers while some 4 starts never make it to the 2-deep on a D1 team.

It seems that injuries have plagued us on the O-line.

Nov 19, 2013, 5:24 PM

I know all O-linemen get banged up and all teams battle the injury bug, but it seems some of our most highly regarded O-line recruits get hit with career-ending injuries before they even set foot on the field or get a chance to get going. J.K. Jay and Destefano come to mind; seems there have been others as well.

Re: injuries ... O-line.

Robert Crisp at NC State is a good example. 5-star kid out of high school, ranked as the top OL in the nation, Due to injury, he has contributed very little for the Pack over the past 4 years.

I look at it like this , every class is a crap shoot .

The coaches get us the best they can , and one year we will get the ones to go with what we got to be special .

This year seems that FSU got that special group .

You're right, the problem has never been quality

In my opinion the difference in Clemson and some of the other major programs is quantity. That showed exactly what I thought it would. We have fewer players. My understanding is that OL is one of the toughest positions to evaluate so logically if you recruit more players you have a better chance of having 5 great ones.

Go Tigers!

that caught my eye more than anything else, as well.

i would like to know the #'s we would like to have vs. #'s we have (i know we weren't counting on the destephano injury, but we've had time to make up for jay.)and it also seems like we've got more centers than guards or tackles, at least by hs position played.

This is really the first year in a long time where FSU has

had a dominant OL. They have struggled plenty at that position.
