Interesting defensive stat

Sep 22, 2022, 1:59 PM

through the first 3 games we have a total of 5 sack and also a total of 5 interceptions.

I'd like to see more pressure this game and that qb sack number to go up a bit. I think that our defense will have a big day.

Sacking Wake will be tough. It seems teams are now throwing

the ball a lot quicker to avoid pressure.

I can't blame them. I would to if I was staring at our DL

fixing to cut it loose.

Maybe we're in high risk/high reward mode. But there sure

are a lot of receivers breaking wide-open on our D.

It seems so different this year……….

When Coach V was here, it seemed like there were people always blitzing from every direction. Pure chaos for defenses. I don’t see that this year. I know Coach G has his own style, but those blitzes were fun to watch.

Wake has given up 9 sacks so far ,,,

A tribute to their quick-release offense. The best bet is send pressure, dropping different players into short coverage to keep Hartman off balance, and keep him from long throws. The Deacs have some tall, talented receivers who can out jump our secondary.

Another interesting stat, while the Deacs average better than 300 yards passing, they are only about .500 (9-of-17) in red zone touchdown opportunities. In other words, their offense falters notably as the amount of yardage to cover shrinks. They have to pick up field goals, which they're very good at. In contrast, opponents (and they aren't exactly top-flite opponents) are .750 for TD opportunities in the red zone.

So ... all we have to do is get there.

The best way to defend Hartman is to have him laying on his back ..... and I think the Tigers will take that approach. At least to start the game.
