Sept 2 next season but now Wofford has been added to Pitt's schedule on Sept 2. I know there was talk of the ACC scheduling Clemson and NCState as the opener but wonder who is going to be the 4th non conference opponent for Clemson now replacing Wofford?

I am sorry but there is absolutely no reason for Clemson to play Charleston Southern or Newberry or PC or SCSU. It adds nothing to our program given the mismatch plus rips off the fans by making us pay for what is essentially a scrimmage.

I would like to see these games disappear. No win situation.

Agreed. I can see it if you are going to open with a FCS program but the trend now seems to be opening with a big conference or non con game. Playing a PC or CSU during the course of a season makes zero sense.

Do not know anyone that works in the Clemson athletic department, but my neighbor works for the Southern Conference. He said that Clemson actually dropped Wofford from the schedule for 2023. He thinks that Clemson is working on a big neutral site game to open the season.

Stay tuned!

The schedule adjustment is because the ACC is having

us play a conference game opening weekend. That’s the TV guys wanting Clemson on LaborDay weekend. Doing so means we had to drop Wofford not just move their game as the rest of their schedule is full. Since Wofford is now scheduled to play Pitt opening weekend, my guess is that the ACC got involved in helping Wofford fill that spot as it’s the conference scheduling causing the changes. Also, I don’t like playing any FCS but it has been our standard schedule for the last 20 + years. 1 FCS, 1 Gof5, 1 P5/ND, and USC. Nothing has changed … CS is same level as Wofford - FCS.
