Interested how the NFLPA reacts with Garrett's suspension

Whatever suspension Myles Garrett gets will be extensive. The NFL Players Association nearly always supports the player in appealing whatever suspension they get. I wonder how they will react in a case like this where another player could have been severely hurt by a non playing type action.

there should be suspension with no appeal. Then he should be handed over to the local authorities.

In this case, the local authorities would be the Cleveland Police and would be no harm no foul. If it had been in Pittsburgh, they might have been pushing for the death penalty.

How so, the guy assaulted him with a weapon. Why is that any different than real life? Are they immune to the laws of the land?
Mason and the Steelers should press charges.

I agree with you BeeTeeTiger. All of these movie stars and professional players are still ordinary citizens and should be treated the same as we are. If Mason and/or the Steelers want to press charges, then it should be handled like the everyday person.

should regulate violent contact sports. should they be at UFC events and arrest someone if hit after the bell? should they arrest nascar drivers who purposely wreck other drivers. move on

That really could have killed Rudolph. Why is that not assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill? Would be if it happened outside of the NFL.

The other question is what if he had gotten a clean hit and had actually killed him? All around a pretty ridiculous situation. I’m afraid that in our day and age of no bad publicity, the NFL would never suspend a player like this for life because of the attention he can now bring to them.

Inside a NFL stadium is a 'safe zone' to do as you dayum well please. Murder in the name of the game! All's fair.
I know that's not the intent, but seriously, suggesting local law enforcement shouldn't step in is a slippery slope. Then again, to some's point, it can be slippery the other way. For certain, Burfict is watching...closely. His 'I never swung a helmet against a guy's head' defense may carry legit weight!

Like you say the police issue could be a slippery slope either way, but I think that it would be a little slicker bringing them in. There is no way that jail time would be involved, so the NFL can punish him much more than any legal authority could.
As far as Burfict, he just uses his own helmet over and over and over again. He has the 1st, 2nd, and 4th longest suspensions for on the field issues for a reason.

willing to sign up for a police state, where officials can loosely decide when they want to get involved and when they don't. if rudolph wants to pursue civil action, then 100% he should and has the right to, but calling for the police to handle sports problems is utterly ridiculous.

calling in the police to handle a sports problem is ridiculous? So if I go into a sporting event and kill or hurt someone seriously, the police wouldn't be called in? Only the league will "suspend" me from other sporting events at their stadium? You don't think Mason was assaulted with a deadly weapon?

Not at all. Nor was Burfict being defended...but he is watching. The reality is, the NFL is positively a PR disaster when self-policing itself. It's an insulated society governed by its' own rules and...mores. And the manner in which far too many players comport themselves, is evidence.
