Information about Syracuse trip?

Jan 25, 2017, 8:25 PM

Would like to get some information from anyone that has made the trip to Syracuse before. Things to do, where to stay, was it fun etc. Was trying to decide which road game to go to next year. Ive been to Louisville and had a great time. Thanks

its only about a 90 minute drive from syra to cooperstown. if you even remotely like baseball, make sure you make that side trip.

we stayed at the Sheraton on campus. Walked to the game.

Very convenient but is sold out quickly. We took a side trip to Toronto, Niagra Falls and Buffalo before getting to Syracuse. Dinosaur BBQ is decent.

I've been to many Syracuse games and just so you don't let your expectations spoil the fun before it starts... Tailgaiting up there is pretty much non-existent. Lots only open 3 hours before kickoff and most are far away from the stadium where you have to take shuttles to the gate. That being said, in 2015 there were a lot of Clemson folks at the SkyTop parking lot (again, you have to figure in time to catch the shuttle to the game). Also, be sure to check out The NYC & Tri-State Area Clemson Club's Facebook page as they threw a party in the STDM lot for a couple hours prior to the game our last time up there. Just be sure you understand that it is NOT clemson. Further, don't be surprised if it snows on October 13th in Syracuse NY, that is not unheard of. It is also very hilly around the stadium, pretty much the entire campus in fact, so wear comfortable clothing / footwear. After the game, finding which shuttle takes you to which lot is a fn jungle and no one will help you. I'm from NY and still get confused. Last time I went, I asked for help and some jerks purposely told my girl and I to get on the wrong shuttle which took us miles away from where we needed to be (getting beat by 40+ never leaves these locals in a great mood).

I have learned to simply pregame at the bars by campus. Go to Chuck's cafe to pregame. Trust me. It's at 727 S Crouse Ave in Syracuse and everyone walks from there to the game, follow the crowd. They have good food and it's one of the top 35 college bars in the USA. It's a good time.

Don't be tricked into thinking pre-gaming downtown or in armory square is a good idea because, with traffic, it's a nightmare organizing a ride over to the stadium from there. There's also no Uber in Syracuse so don't bank on that idea. And taxis are hard to come by with everyone going one direction. Having fun yet?

The good news? You can order beers inside the stadium until half time. :) If you have any questions or concerns, I'll help as best I can.

I've made the trip twice...

You're so close it would be a real shame to make that trip and not take-in Niagara Falls (about 160 miles west of Syracuse) and the MLB Hall of Fame (about 90 southeast of Syracuse) in Cooperstown.

We fly in to Buffalo, rent a car, take-in the Falls, and then make the drive over to Syracuse (usually on Thursday). The Canadian side of the falls is definitely the most scenic so take your Passport (if you have one). There's plenty to see on the US side too though.

While you're in Syracuse, be sure to head over to Dinosaur BBQ one evening for dinner. I get the Tres Ninos Combination platter. It's no Smokin' Pig but it pretty darn good. They don't take reservations so if you have a big party, go early. It will be crowded.

Oh wait the "Carrier Dome" named after an HVAC company does not have conditioned air. They play their home football games in the basketball gym.

Last time I saw or heard anything about their upgrading the stadium, the costs exceeded $100M and were "completely conceptual in nature".

That was September 2016. Lol. I have a friend up there that says as far as December, the plans hadn't even been presented yet to the board of trustees. And seeing as though they need the basketball revenue to stay afloat up there, and don't have an alternate location to play, it'll probably never happen.
