the shidhouse to the penthouse.
When I first moved to middle TN, I was left feeling fortunate to find Stone IPA in the local beer fridges. Maybe if I struck it rich I could find some founders.
Dunno what's changed with the local distribution patterns, but in last year we've gotten Dogfish, Bells, Jai Alai, bunch of good ones from AL (straight to Ale, Good People, etc), ballast point, and now I JUST SAW THAT WE HAVE SIX PENCE.
Picked up a 6 of Resin and I'm in the process of letting this apparent nectar of the gods hit my lips in the next 5 minutes or so. Will report back.

Horry sheet, you were right. I don't ever catch a buzz after one beer, but this one sure did.
Just confirmed that wife is taking daughter to lax practice tonight, and cracking another. Then, firing up the smoker, and having some salmon and twice baked potatoes.

Snake Handler is fantastic, but if you ever encounter the Good People IPA, it's good stuff too.
True fact....the founder of Straight to Ale came up with the name of his brewery at a DnC concert.

When Joonyer was traveling a bunch with his job, he would

bring me stuff from all over the Southeast. Many times he'd find a bottle shop and call and tell me what they had, and I would place my order. That's how I discovered those two. Another that he brought me that I absolutely LOVE is Cedar Creek Brewery Dankosaurus out of Texas. Not sure if those get distributed up your way, but keep your eyes open for that one. I think it's better than Snake Handler and Monkeynaut. Joonyer actually brought that one back from a trade show trip to the Beau Rivage in Biloxi.

My buddy here that gets his hands on all kind of exotics by trading through the mail has been down with the new marriage/new house thing the last couple of months. Usually, I get a recommend like this and I put that on him, and he usually is able to get a few. Hopefully he gets back full steam on both his home brewing and his trading once he gets settled in. He's got a pretty good little network and has gotten some white whales. He's my Zombie Dust man, and I'm down to my last one! I will put that on him and see what happens though.

but you were dead on with the Zombie Dust---it was special. That was a fantastic moment, having pizza with my son at Geno's East and drinking a few zombie dusts. Found out at the end, that they only got 2 cases a year, and they had just come in. So I drank 1/16th of Geno's Zombie dust annual allocation. I think that was my lottery moment.

But I'm beginning to think actually finding whatever beer it is that is so hard to get is actually better than drinking the beer itself.

Hopslam is a great beer, but IMHO, half the fun is tracking it down. Is it orders of magnitude better than some year round availability stuff? Nah.
But this Zombie Dust, man...it was the exception to the rule.....finding it AND drinking it were equally worthwhile.

I have had a couple over the years that I was so excited to get hands on and thought I loved, only to be disappointed the next time I get one. But Zombie Dust has come my way 6 or 7 times, and I absolutely LOVE it every single time. I really think it is my all time favorite craft beer.

when it's something I've never seen or tried, or something I can't get my hands on around Charlotte. But I can't say that I've found them to be overpriced for South Carolina in general, maybe a few pennies more but I think that would be the case with any independent as opposed to a big box like Total Wine. At least, they seem to be in line with O'Darby's and Main Street Bottle Shop here in Rock Hill.

One of my buddies is a DF fan and liked it, but that's one that I just could not stomach. Picked up a couple of singles in a make your own sixer, and the last one had been in my fridge for months.

pals. I've got a couple of buddies that are dang near alcoholics that won't touch a craft beer. I usually keep a stock of pedestrian beers like PBR, Rolling Rock, and Miller High Life around for visitors or all day drinking events, and they'll wipe me out of those and then stop and go to the store for more of those before drinking one IPA.

We've started doing a regular acoustic thing here lately that has been huge fun. My regular guitarist playing his ridiculously expensive Gibson acoustic, our old drummer is singing (no drums), and me on bass. We're doing some cool and interesting things that have been challenging, as opposed to a lot of the the three chord blues-based stuff that the full band does. Started working out a version of Pretzel Logic Wednesday night. Also, started doing REMs Don't Go Back To Rockville, which surprised me that it's actually a little challenging since we had never tried to play it before.

Pretzel Logic is the same way as far as converting the keyboard into acoustic guitar. We're doing it a little more bluesy to compensate.

How long have you been able to get Ballast Point and Sixpoint? I live in the Memphis area, and I have seen nothing from either brewery. I do need to pick up my beers from my beer club membership soon. I'll definitely look then. Hopefully I can load up on some Big Eye and Resin. Kangarts in the newfound selection.

If I've been missing out on it for a while because I haven't looked hard enough, I'll probably just get drunk... like any other weekend day.
