In terms of morality, why would a wall be not OK

Jan 31, 2019, 2:42 PM

and Normandy fencing or enhanced fencing would be OK?

Well, with "feel good" morality

Jan 31, 2019, 2:57 PM

one is more "inviting" than the other.

Has anyone here said that?

Umm, you may want to look at statements from DEM leaders.

Which of those leaders posts here? I'm curious why anyone here should be expected to defend what some Democrat said.

The same way we debate what some Republican said, although he isn't here to defend himself.

Yes and quite often.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know. If no one here believes that, I guess

I won't get a good answer. That's OK.

It’s not but Pelosi can’t just say we’re against it

to hurt Trump politically.

It’s a good question

Jan 31, 2019, 11:16 PM

I don’t see the wall as immoral in and of itself, but indirectly it is, mostly because of the lies it would be built on.

First, the justifications for it have been dishonest and hateful. There is a false narrative that immigrants are dangerous and Trump has fueled the flames. And this increases the likelihood of crazy people being mean to or even physically attacking immigrants.

Second, we could help a lot more people if we spent that $5 billion more wisely. There are thousands of people suffering from opioid addiction and we need more money to pay for the treatment. That’s just one need.

We send $12 billion dollars to countries that are hostile towards us. Why don't we cut funding to foreign aid towards countries that are not stated allies or part of NATO?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't take the "it's immoral" angle.

Feb 1, 2019, 8:17 AM

I take the more of the "it's impractical and pointless" angle.

People get around things. They get around laws. People who want to do something bad enough aren't deterred by things or laws.

What deters them are proactive people who are well-funded and well-supported.
