when they have it slipped halfway in, then jam it all the way up in there.
Are they trying to tilt the senate to the dems, they seem to really be trying hard here.

I think both positions can be honestly held. I also don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that the FF’s may have used much more restrictive language had they foreseen the technology that would allow an individual to cause so much harm with a single weapon.

I’m not disagreeing with you, just saying I don’t think it’s unreasonable speculation. As for the language, I agree it was very purposeful, and citizens should have a right to possess and use firearms…I just don’t think it guarantees an absolute right to own/possess ANY/EVERY type of firearm or without any requirements/restrictions, as long as they don’t interfere with an individuals right to self-defense. It would be interesting to know how the FF’s might feel about any such restrictions and how they might sort this with regard to a state’s right to restrict ownership/use. I imagine not even they would agree on how to apply the 2A in modern times.

In order to get a concealed carry in NC one has to
Jun 23, 2022, 12:32 PM
|
|
pay to attend a state approved concealed carry class (usually a whole day class), pass a written and range shooting test and go through an extended background check. Once an individual has done all of that they can pay a fee and apply for a concealed carry permit through their local sheriff's office.
I have no problem with these requirements for obtaining a concealed carry permit as I'm all in favor of firearms training to include when the use of deadly force is lawful. The NC requirements are not over burdensome and in the case of my county (Cleveland) the sheriff likes having licensed concealed carry individuals as he sees them as being a background checked crime deterrent.
However, the requirement that a State has the sole discretion to determine if I have a "need" to exercise my 2A rights is complete BS. Good on the SCOTUS for ruling this unconstitutional.

Can personal concealed weapons be carried on military bases?
Jun 23, 2022, 2:09 PM
|

Apparently not _ at least according to the articles I read. What’s your take on gun controls on military installations versus other places of employment, private enterprises, schools or public buildings? A contrarian could argue similar gun restrictions and controls should apply to other locations. TIA
(BTW - not trying to be a smart ###, just interested in the rationale and distinctions given the expanded 2A rulings. Admittedly I think the current weapons control on bases makes sense given unique considerations. But what constitutes unique considerations for other locations?)

What about concealed carry inside the SC…I wonder how the justices might rule on that.

any place that serves alcohol and any place that posts that concealed weapons are banned.
Ironically the places that are banned are probably the best places to have a concealed firearm.
All the guns in the world wouldn't help me on Fort Bragg. There are probably quite a few over there that I would put money on them over me with me having a gun and them not having anything. At least I'd have a chance.

In GA, I can carry in banks, places that charge admission, places the serve alcohol, and in limited circumstances in schools.
I can also drink and carry. But it's illegal for me to discharge a firearm while drinking, LOL.

on bases has enabled several high profile mass shootings over the last decade or so. Not just CC, but the prohibition on enlisted members from carrying.

Sheriff who likes the 2nd Amendment?

Must be nice. Meck's finally got sued about failing to process pistol/CC permits within the statutory deadline. A county Commish looked into it (after complaints on NextDoor of all places) and said the Sheriff attributed it to COVID but wasn't hiring more staff to get them back into compliance. Sheriff is a progressive wave candidate...

He has really been going after the meth houses in the County and even puts ads in the local Shelby papers with a hotline where the drug dealers can call and rat on one another. Here's a sample of one of the ads:
"Are you losing money to your drug dealing competition? We offer a free service to help you eliminate your problem! Report your competition at 704-484-xxxx"

Conceal carry on military forts is a unique animal...

I've been retired since 2015 so my knowledge may be outdated but... Military people live on the military bases/Forts - as such you could have firearms in the barracks, home, car etc...(may have to register your firearm with the MPs - depending on the particular Fort/base). Most installations had "gun and rod" clubs where people got together and shot their weapons on post (usually at the military range's on the weekends). Some installations/units did require Soldiers that lived in the barracks to maintain their personnel firearms in the unit's arms room but that was usually at the Command's discretion.
After 9-11, just about every work facility on the military installations implemented controlled access measures (i.e. metal detectors, access rosters/security badges required etc...) that was supervised by plenty of armed security. Based on the Government provided security measures there was no real need for personal security conceal carry in our work place as getting an unauthorized weapon into the buildings I worked at would have been difficult at best. In my combat and training units - we also had training days where everyone carried their US Government issued weapons as part of our weapons immersion programs to get people used to properly handling and having weapons on them at all times like they would in a deployment.
Overall, there was always a lot of armed people walking around the installations (be it MP's, unit armed guards, civilian security etc...) and while there have been a few incidents of active shooters on military installations over the years (Fort Hood shooter at the in/out processing building) the time for an armed response to such an event is VERY quick compared to the civilian world.

Vaguely remember a heck of an afternoon thunderstorm that shut us down really quickly. Friends dad was a full bird so he had organized the outing.
Guns were in his trunk. Not sure if any restrictions back in 70s but different time.
