Do you guys think he can win?

Dec 8, 2015, 8:51 AM

I believe he is absolutely, without question the best player in CFB. I just wonder about all of the bias against the ACC and Clemson and whether he can win because of that.

I believe he can... IF he can defeast the SEC Fairy Dust

I believe that he will win!

Despite the ESPN narrative, Henry is subject to some degree of SEC fatigue amongst others in the local media around the country. The Big 10 and Big 12 areas, without legit candidates of their own, are certain to have Watson somewhere on their ballots.

With regard to McCaffrey, many either won't be familiar with him due to west coast bias (translated, east coast sleepy heads who had watched football coverage and games for 14 hours before some of Stanford's games even kicked off) or view him like CJ Spiller, amassing yardage and stats but not carrying a team.

The only downside to Watson's chances has been how long it took for his candidacy to take off. If voters waited, he should win it. If they voted two or three weeks early, who knows?

How cool would it be for DW4 to take it this year and repeat ext year with two Nattys to boot?

In my humble opinion....

Dec 8, 2015, 9:13 AM [ in reply to Do you guys think he can win? ]

Alabama could do well with or without their running back. Stanford would do well without their QB. But..... Clemson's success hinges on Watson. He is one of a kind. 4

I ran the numbers against Henry and they're not impressive..

Dec 8, 2015, 10:01 AM

I wanted to see what the best individual rushing/all purpose numbers were against the teams that Alabama played.

In other words, how other teams ran the ball against the same teams Alabama faced.

Henry was the leader in only (5) games, and three of those he ran the ball over 30 times.
Florida, which is what most ESecPN heads are using as his signature game, he was in 3rd place behind D. Cook and L. Fournette. Cook beat him with almost half the carries!

I will post all the numbers around lunch time... I wanted to compare Watsons too, but this took longer than I expected.

Great information. I hope the voters look at it that way, too. They should, but I have no confidence when a secheat team is involved.

Very interesting point. Look forward to seeing that . wonder if they'll look at it like that.

I agree

Also, if Watson was the quarterback for Alabama, everybody would be playing for 2nd place and it wouldn't even be close.

Wonder if this is based on polling some of the voters? If so, he definitely has a chance. He was also No. 1 in the CBS writers poll.

The running back vote may be split with DW4 No. 2 on most of the ballots that voted a running back for No. 1. DW4 was obviously No. 1 on most ballots that voted a QB No. 1, otherwise, Mayfield from OK would have gotten an invite.

DW can win the Heisman

Dec 8, 2015, 9:25 AM [ in reply to Do you guys think he can win? ]

Watson is the best team player on and off the field. The Heisman folks want a college player that can represent all the past winners with integrity now and in the future. I think Henry will be third and DW or McCaffrey have the best chance to win the trophy.

When you take into account the defenses he played

Dec 8, 2015, 9:27 AM [ in reply to Do you guys think he can win? ]

against, three top ten teams he led us to victory over and our #1 ranking for six weeks the vote to award him the Heisman should be a no brainer.

the voters use their heads and ignore the E$ecPN propaganda machine.

If they vote on merit and don't have a big glass of sec juice first, then without a doubt he can win. He has more yards , more touchdowns and is the reason we are #1 and undefeated. No question. Henry is good. But Watson is the leader of the offense. He has all the responsibility. Henry and the other guy just takes the hand off. Wayne was 4 yards shy of Henry's yardage with half the carries against the #10 team vs the #18 team. Watson is the clear choice.
GO TIGERS!!!

He's the best player in college football.

He has no chance of winning the trophy.

Re: FB Update: Watson ranked #1 in SI.com's Heisman Watch

Dec 8, 2015, 9:56 AM

to the talking heads on ESPN, it is a foregone conclusion that Henry will win. Not even worth a discussion.... They don't give Watson any chance.

I REALLY want to see Watson carve-up Alabama in the national championship game and then tell them they get to watch us again next year from Tuscaloosa!

Las Vegas has the Oklahoma with best chance to win, followed by Alabama, then Clemson with MSU pulling up the rear....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Derrick Henry is one-dimensional

Dec 8, 2015, 10:11 AM

Something I haven't seen any of the talking heads mention on Henry is that he has almost no receiving yardage. Only 10 catches for 97 yards. Compare that with Watson, who has over 3500 passing yards and nearly 900 rushing yards. Strikes me that the Heisman winner ought to be strong at more than one element of the game. Watson fits that bill, hope he can bring it home. We're gonna need a bigger trophy case!

Watson even has a punt and a tackle! LOL

When we had that turnover and Watson got the tackle I had to talk my brother-in-law down from the ledge by saying "Watson's just adding defensive stats to his Heisman Resume!" Haha. Point for you!

winners in their championship games, I won't be too upset if Watson loses. It's quite a recruiting tool at Alabama - be mediocre and get a Heisman.
