Honoring December 7, 1941

There were more than 6,500 Clemson men in World War II, 90 percent of whom were officers commissioned as a result of ROTC training at Clemson. Of these men, 376 gave their lives.

My granddad was a Clemson engineering graduate building bridges in Arkansas when America was attacked, married with two children at that point. Due to his military training at Clemson, he immediately left everything behind to join the Army as an officer and he fought the war in the Pacific. He was stationed in The Philippines when the bombs were dropped to end the war. I salute the men like him, who without hesitation, were willing to leave their civilian lives behind to defend our country after the attack.
