I think the new OCs are having a sophmore slump

Sep 11, 2016, 1:22 AM

Sure the OL isn't what it's cracked up to be, but the play calling seems tired. Troy ran those WR screens better than we did. Also, we seem to be VERY predictable on offense. Auburn and Troy seemed to be there on every play.

Yep...only Venables and defense seem to be ready even with

all the attrition...one more week to get things straight.

I put alot of the blame on the o/c's, they abandoned the run much too early in the game, making there offense one dimensional and much easier to stop.

Great analysis. Why abandon the run when you can't run it? Seems like you would just keep doing something over and over that isn't working

But we could run it, we just stopped.

The run is soemthing you gotta stick with.

We couldn't run it against Troy? That's laughable. If we can run it against them who can we run against

Totally agree

Wondering if we're seeing what players be.taught by our 2 oc is like now that Chad is gone for 2 yrs.

I agree with you to a certain aspect, but I believe it's a little of what we saw early on last year, granted we didn't struggle this much on offense. Even in the Louisville game last year the play calling was very vanilla. I believe we are only running a base offense, so we don't give the likes of Louisville and FSU much film to work with. Why open up the playbook when we can win ugly with the basics...I mean a win is a win, right? I'm hoping that's the case anyway, but it still doesn't attribute to how poor the OL, WR and even Watson's play was. As much as it has pained me to watch, I know this offense will get it going at the right time.

I'm still wondering why we don't use

Sep 11, 2016, 6:53 AM

The middle of the field on offense. We have a good tight end and some big receivers and yet we never seem to throw it over the middle. It allows the linebackers to crowd the box and the safeties to cheat on the outside routes.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing...

I am no OC but I think if the defense shows you a "cover 2" is when the middle of the field opens up.

We did and Leggett freaking dropped it.***

There's something in these hills.

I think there has been a lethal combination of factors.
1) lack of mental focus- i.e. Drops, OL misses, etc
2) lack of big play - we've had a couple of these we normally hit. Defenses are willing to live on that edge and take away other things.
3) vanilla play calling - have not run qb like last half of last year. I initially agree with this - see if we can execute enough to take care of business without putting DW4 at risk. Time to open it up
4) is dw4 right? I think it is mental. Pressing in some spots. Bad luck - drops when on target
