I’m really pleased with our performance tonight.

Nov 21, 2022, 10:56 PM

We continued to share the ball extremely well. We are a very unselfish team and we pass with precision.

We didn’t hit our threes quite as well as I would’ve liked, but we didn’t force any bad threes that I recall. It’s always nice to see Hemenway in rhythm.

I loved getting the freshmen so many quality minutes. Great move by Brad. I told you that he wanted to play them more. He isn’t against playing freshmen, but he does expect them to earn it in practice.

One lineup was Dillon Hunter, Josh Beadle, RJ Godfrey, Chauncey Wiggins, and Ben Middlebrooks. Four freshmen and a sophomore. I thought they did well together and brought good energy. The extended minutes were great for their confidence.

PJ is still a work in progress. I still contend that we would’ve beaten the Gamecocks if he hadn’t played. Obviously we need him this year, but you can tell he’s pressing and still isn’t in game shape yet. That will come, but I don’t expect him to be back to his pre-injury self until probably January. I like the current strategy of bringing him off the bench and limiting him to ~20 minutes per game for now.

Big test against Iowa on Friday. We will be traveling on Wednesday and having Thanksgiving at the team hotel. Getting a win over them would give our team a nice lift early in the year.

A win over them would go a long way toward making up for the UofSC debacle. Eagerly awaiting that one

Yeah, buys few more weeks of not being fired!. That team wasn't in the same league talent wise and besides a W, I dont really see that this helped more than a scrimmage. Actually our scout team would be tougher. Sorry, I don't see a huge gain in a game against a HS team.

We still played a really good game tonight though.

Jk, I am a fan of your response here! You acknowledged the lack of talent by Loyola and still praised the team. Seriously not being sarcastic, your reply was worthy of a grownup response, and seems like replies are always targeted with negative Nancy replies. Glad you agreed with lack of competition but still felt the team had a good game. You know more about bball than I do, but I still am convinced that CBB has had every opportunity and its time for a change at Clemson. Whether good or bad, its time to change the course of the future, we know what CBB future looks like now!

Its easy to look good against bad teams.

Yet we couldn't do it against SCAR.

To accept the W but then dishonor the opponent doesn’t sit well with me. These are all young men who have made the journey from HS to College ball. I respect their efforts and wish them all well. GTH.

Go Tigers!

I really like this team. I agree that the extra pass leads to a higher percentage shot and it seems to happen naturally for this group. That shows more about awareness than personal/individual goals.

I still worry about PJ. I hope he can come back at a pace that lets him get back in his groove without further injury.

Go Tigers!

Our offense is better than it’s ever been.

I’m still very skeptical about this team defensively — specifically on the glass and defending the three. Friday will go a long way toward showing us where we really stand.

Re: I’m really pleased with our performance tonight.

Nov 22, 2022, 7:36 AM

“Our offense is better than it’s ever been.” - I can’t believe you mean this literally. We’ve played five very bad teams. We have the 302nd ranked strength of schedule. All five teams we’ve played have RPIs below 200, SC Upstate is in the 300s. Just for comparison, only one of our first five opponents last year had an RPI below 200. And we’re averaging almost 2 points less per game on offense

I'm not ready to say, "this is Clemson's best offensive teams ever", but it is very obvious that this is one of brownell's better passing and shooting teams.

I don't think anything is obvious about this team at this point. What is your prediction for the next 5?

Re: I’m really pleased with our performance tonight.

Nov 22, 2022, 12:54 PM

Our passing has been fantastic this year. I think that it is evident that this is one of brownells best passing teams.

My prediction over the next 5 is 3-2 wit us losing to Iowa and WF.

Re: I’m really pleased with our performance tonight.

Nov 22, 2022, 11:36 AM [ in reply to Re: I’m really pleased with our performance tonight. ]

I suppose that was a bit hyperbolic -- i just mean they're moving, cutting, passing, and shooting the ball better than I've seen under Brownell. I stand by that. I acknowledge that fact that our opponents have all been terrible, but even in past years I have seen a lot of stagnation and standing around even against cupcake OOC opponents.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I’m really pleased with our performance tonight.

Nov 22, 2022, 11:41 AM

I can agree with that. They've moved the ball well. Been more active than we usually see. But the caliber of opponent has to be factored in. That might be the worst 5 teams we've ever opened a season with. I have no recollection of our strength of schedule ever being in the 300s before. If we look nearly as good in the next two games, my pessimism might begin to soften.

Nov 22, 2022, 3:41 PM

Same goes for my optimism — if we score 45 points against Iowa on 30% shooting and do the same in game 2 of the tournament, I think that would significantly affect how I view this team at this stage

Re: I’m really pleased with our performance tonight.

Nov 22, 2022, 6:49 PM [ in reply to Re: I’m really pleased with our performance tonight. ]

That was basically my point I was making about Loyola, some seemed to take offense to me saying they are not a great team even though we looked good. We are not a good team right now. What I saw against Coots was horrible.

We are going to miss the aggressive play from Collins. His ability to get rebounds and to move players defensively is missing totally. We are a shoot first team, with little fire to rebound the ball. We are also missing a second big man, Hall can't carry this team especially while still in recovery mode.

Nov 22, 2022, 9:09 AM

I was pleased with our defensive effort. Glad he took hemmy out so he'd have a perfect game. That's hard to do taking that many shots.

Wiggly did great. Not sure what it'll take to get middle going. Maybe one on one's with chief. Anyway, get that man on the court. Will be exciting to follow Wiggly's progress. Been saying, think we got a special team this year.

Somewhat surprised Beetlejuice just can't get going yet. Probably needs another year. Fortunately, I don't think we'll need him this year. We can go big and score with 2 guards. Tys looking like he's ready to take over.

Hall will be back as you said for the conference. My man chief is doing good. Just love his enthusiasm. He'll be a great one when alls said and done. Felt kinda sorry for him in the 2nd half. He wanted the phi slamma jama and I think he just mis timed his jump... kinda funny too.

Excited about the next few games. Penn St game should be a really competitive game. Folks up here are cautiously optimistic about their team this year. Enjoy the trip.

On a positive note. JK did not have a single - jealousy jab - at Dabo, his coaches, the football team, the fans who support, the transfer portal use, the womens softball team, or wearing a specific color to support a charity.

Yes I am serious. There is a difference in between “we won” or “we played poorly” vs - “we are traveling” and “ we are in the team hotel”. Or are you simply trying to muddy the water?

To what end? He’s done it before. I’ve called it out before. He regularly makes comments that would require direct knowledge of what our coaches/staff think. While it wouldn’t be hard to guess at, I’m pretty sure the team doesn’t make its travel plans public. He makes comments all the time about what our coaches think about players and recruits that can’t be inferred from interviews. And he presents them as fact, not conjecture. I have no reason to search through his posts - pay better attention.

Really happy to see all those freshmen get some significant time on the floor last night. Hopefully Brad can work his magic with them and have some of them ready for the ACC stretch ahead. Schieff has been a lot of fun to watch this season with his added weight and attitude. I saw a lot of energy and confidence last night with a lot of new faces, so hoping this bodes well for us as our schedule talents up.

He actually popped in to tell how much harder our schedule is now (easily disproven) and that we can’t overlook anyone. Then proceeded to tell us USuC might actually be good. Of course that seems even more foolish now but shame isn’t one of JK’s virtues (nor are any other virtues).
