Wow.. yeah. Millennials... they just want the option to go.

Sep 23, 2017, 5:36 PM

No commitment. Up the required GPA and end up with a bunch of nerds that don't like sports.

I hate being lumped in with this generation of muppets

Back in my day (2000) we went to the WHOLE game!

Time for IPTAY to create a petition

Sep 23, 2017, 7:02 PM

to try to get more tickets like the students did. People that pay for tickets will actually care enough to use them or at the very least give them to someone that will use them if they are unable to come.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm really opposed to this

Sep 23, 2017, 7:04 PM

I came to Clemson from out-of-state and knew nothing of college football when I came. The accessibility and the people made me a Tiger. I would rather, as an alum, pay for someone else to have that opportunity than ask them to pay for it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm all for the accessibility to tickets for students

Sep 23, 2017, 7:11 PM

but only the number of tickets that will be used. If the students that are getting the tickets don't care enough to fill up the student section then they are either getting to many tickets or the tickets are being given to the wrong students.

But I was joking about the petition because someone from the student body create a petition recently to try to take away some of the IPTAY tickets and increase the student allotment.

2001-2005

Before anyone comments, yes I realize that is 5 years, but I guess I just enjoyed my time so much that I wanted to stay an extra year.

Were you for taking away student tickets then

Re: I'm all for the accessibility to tickets for students

Sep 23, 2017, 7:28 PM

To be clear, I am not suggesting that all of the student tickets be taken away. But even when I was a student, I was annoyed anytime that the frat students didn't fill up their sections and thought that their tickets should be given to someone else.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I wasn't going to name orgs, but since we're out there...

Sep 23, 2017, 7:34 PM

Spent some overnights at DV where 50+ popped collars showed up at 7 AM after we'd been there 18 hours prior... if you don't have to put the time in, it means nothing to you (like most other things in life). I'm definitely on the same page with you here.

Re: I wasn't going to name orgs, but since we're out there...

Sep 23, 2017, 9:53 PM

Popped collars. Forgot about those. Is that still a thing? Haven't seen any in a while. Always thought that was the dumbest look.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Can we quit pinning this as a Greek Life issue

Sep 23, 2017, 9:33 PM [ in reply to Re: I'm all for the accessibility to tickets for students ]

I was in a fraternity and stayed for all 4 quarters for every game. In my experience, non-Greek students weren’t necessarily any “better” fans than Greek students.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's not a Greek problem

Sep 24, 2017, 9:12 AM

You've pointed out exactly why I didnt want to name any specific organization - no singular one, or type, was the problem. My issue with blocks (or anyone who followed the practice of late arrival and joining people in line) was basically unearned tickets which led to little value in the eye of the holder.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Totally understand the petition snark and joke... not a fan

Sep 23, 2017, 7:17 PM [ in reply to I'm all for the accessibility to tickets for students ]

I know exactly where you're coming from on that. As a student, there were a few games I was "late" (no comment: talking about you, block seating) and ended up in the upper deck, so I have a real interest in tickets being "well represented". As a student, I've sat in the upper deck at the dead cockroach, lower deck at a bowl game (2, actually), and gone on a few away games. It's a tough problem, but, as much as anyone, I hate seeing space on the Hill. That's just not right.

I don't want to see empty seats, I'm right there with you. I'd love to find a way to incentivize that so that people come and stay for the games (IPTAY student membership? Isn't this why it was there?) I can't stand the halftime punch-outs who go hang at a tailgate... if you want to do that, give the ticket up (yes, I have a strong opinion... get over it).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have been on the side of the students

Sep 23, 2017, 7:39 PM [ in reply to I'm really opposed to this ]

in the tickets arguments. But today really was unacceptable. They treated the game like a blowout vs Coastal rather than a tight game vs an ACC foe

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I'm really opposed to this

Sep 23, 2017, 10:07 PM [ in reply to I'm really opposed to this ]

That is an incomplete statement. Put it as a fee to accept in tuition. If you don't accept it you have to buty them like everyone else. I graduated in 2007 and everyone went to game but these weak, entitled, nerdy, un athletic new Clemson students aren't the same as my class

Re: STOP GIVING STUDENTS SO MANY TICKETS!!!

Sep 23, 2017, 7:19 PM

You know that is a very poor look for all the students that beg for tickets and do that. I was lucky enough to get a ticket every game so far and you better believe I was there to the end. I am also 25 years old and don't have some frat party to go to at halftime. It is truly sad.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well said on this article! The passion should start with the students filling up

Sep 23, 2017, 7:42 PM

The stadium early. When I was in school 06-09 we filled the stadium early and set the tone. We we're also very loud. Always doing the wave and chants. I have to admit I see a huge different in that student passion as a whole. Some get the expectations, but alot now are going for frat/sorority reasons. Just bc it's a thing to do on Saturday. Another thing Im upset with is the student body support for basketball. It's crazy bc when I was in school we lined up down to the iptay office just to get in early for a great seat front row. Now way more than half the student section is open at little John. There's just a lack of passion. As if our students have no idea what basketball or football is.

BS people have b itched about the students for 20 plus years. But I love when newbie grads come back say we filled it up. It's been the same since ford left. Leave the students alone

Sep 23, 2017, 9:40 PM

Don't think we need to reduce the number of student tickets, just need to reintroduce the camp-out to make sure the most dedicated students get the tickets. Also waiting outside for a few days makes you want to stay til the end of the game a little more.

Season Tickets

Sep 23, 2017, 9:53 PM

I've had season tickets for 3 years now. I make at least 4 games / year and try for 5. I've been to all the playoff games...I do live in California though so it's a bit of a journey. My sister uses my tickets when I don't go. I'm surprised by the number of season ticket holders who don't show up for games at all or only stay a quarter or 2 then leave. Auburn, Notre Dame, FSU, USC were the only games all the seats were full around us and people stayed the entire game. In talking with some of them, they pretty much all say they were having more fun at their tailgate or they had friends or family who didn't have tix and they were going back to join them.......I've heard upwards of 30,000 show up who never intend to go to the game.

why not???

They are moving to better seats!

Sep 24, 2017, 7:51 AM

When I was at Clemson in the 80's, loved my student BBall tickets. Me and my roommates would pick up tics circulate for 5 mins after tip off to wait for late arrivals to get seated. Then we moved in on the empty half court seats. Saw Chris Michaels sink buzzer beater over Dean Smith's UNC, and harassed Billy Packer more than once.

i would support giving students that can be scalped before limiting their access. They can make extra coin and seats will be filled. Provided 90,000 people want to see BC.

Re: STOP GIVING STUDENTS SO MANY TICKETS!!!

Sep 24, 2017, 9:17 AM

This is why the online ticket system is garbage. It takes absolutely no effort to get a ticket and everyone just signs in to get one even if they don’t plan on attending the game.

BRING BACK THE TICKET LINE!

The people who are going to wake up early to get in line for tickets are the ones who are going to show up to the game.

The system we had for student tickets worked perfectly fine and should never have been changed to begin with.
