Is Jack close to the PANIC button??? I wonder if the Jack pumpers convinced yet, or do you need to see more. And I assure you I'm not happy, I'm completely F-ing embarrassed of what Jack has done with what was such a fine BB program!!! FK Jack Leggett and the baseball shoes he walks in!!!And he still believes they don't have a problem, they are just a little unfocused!!!

So do we hope they suck the rest of the way so we can get a better coach.

H&ll no, we won't get much better, but I would like to see our kids make the best they can make out of the season. I don't blame them bc it really isn't their fault. Everything they do, they have to wait until Jack says its OK. They play as tight as a wound up tight rubber band. Jack may not ever push the panic button, but he is panicking, and it makes him stress our kids out, and that causes them to panic.

I am afraid they will suck regardless of what we hope.

Please, please Jack push the "PANIC" button! Every game should be played with the panic button fully engaged. Don't go to VT with the idea of winning the series, go with the mindset of sweeping the series. Same for all series. Sweeping is the standard!

I like that idea, and give all our kids a brand new broom. Sweeping is the standard!!!

Torn

Mar 18, 2015, 9:38 AM [ in reply to Re: BSB Update: Tigers fall to Chanticleers, drop below .500 on the season ]

I'm torn about this. I want us to win every game, period, end of story. I do want JL gone, though, and winning would only reinforce that they did the right thing by keeping him, and all is okay with Tiger BB. Wrong assumption. Winning would be more like done in spite of him, rather than because of him. It is time for a change and for us to get back to the baseball legacy that we had (key word there is "had") for so long. That legacy has been long gone for a good while now, and Jack can't get it back.

Hey I'm no Jack legget fan or supporter but let's face it we are very weak on pitching every reliever that comes in gets shelled! Jacks not toeing the rubber, and I promise you he's not telling them to throw it where they can hit it. It all boils down to recruiting have to go after guys that want to play college baseball, we lose 7-8 commits every year to draft out of high school. Every team deals with this and I know the money is a factor but maybe a new face with a fresh perspective is what they need. Maybe able to lock in some of those recruits.

Re: BSB Update: Tigers fall to Chanticleers, drop below .500 on the season

Mar 17, 2015, 10:23 PM

Yes I'm sure he isn't telling the pitchers to throw it so they can rocketship it. They are doing well enough of that without it down the pipe. We could use a batters coach like most of the teams we play have. But Jack should IMO stop wasting a lot of time recruiting those guys that MLB will draft the second their draft season comes up. Jack has been around long enough to know what those recruits are going to do, they are going after those fat signing bonuses whether or not they ever play an inning in the majors. But recruit every recruit that he knows that has the raw ability to become a major leaguer with work in a good college program. It do seem like every season we lose a player or two to the majors and they never step foot on a college field....

Take 2 out of 3 against us and go into a freefall. I'm kinda surprised to say the least.

You were right about one thing, WE "T O O K" 2 out of the three from yall. And that isn't saying to much about your team getting two of the three "Took" from you!!!!

Why wait. I seemed obvious last year that we need NEW leadership. Hard to believe that we continue the same old same old. Get some guts. Enough is enough.

to be tempered to " almost regional". Hate to say it, but that's where we are. COC can make some noise.

Does Jack make it through the season?

Mar 17, 2015, 11:32 PM

Not hating on him, just asking a real question

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, he'll be here.

Mar 18, 2015, 12:05 AM

It's not his fault that DRad didn't can him when he should have. Let him go down with dignity. Replacing him mid-season won't realistically fix this season. It's already hosed.

Re: Does Jack make it through the season?

Mar 18, 2015, 8:36 AM [ in reply to Does Jack make it through the season? ]

I really don't want to see another mid season firing no where around Clemson. Our program is hurting enough, and I don't see us doing anything that could hurt us anymore than we are right now. I think that D Rad should have some head hunters on the ground right now looking for us a coach that "CAN" get our Baseball program back on track....

Re: BSB Update: Tigers fall to Chanticleers, drop below .500 on the season

It's hard to recruit at the D-1 level in baseball. You have to go after them and most of the top guys will be drafted but in a time where there are no full scholarships for division 1 baseball, you make the best of what you can get. This is why you're seeing a rise in mid major programs within baseball. As players are getting offered baseball scholarships at the D-1 level, most of the time they will end up paying out of pocket for what the scholarship doesn't cover. It's better for a player to accept an offer say at Georgia Southern because 1.) School tuition and fees are a lot cheaper (and yes I know comparing GSU to Clemson is comparing apples to oranges, no pun intended) and 2.) because youll still be playing at the D-1 level. So that kid who's really better than many other guys but his family doesn't make a big income, they may not have the money net to cover what the 50% scholarship may cover so thats why mid majors attract kids like this and now mostly every D-1 team is talented enough to win. It's turning into professional ball almost in terms of talent all around. Also Jack has not been recruiting well in the hitting department lately or bad teaching of hitting. We are a very non aggressive hitting team which is NOT good. Very inconsistent. Missed out on the pitcher/DH Taylor Widener at Carolina. Played with him in showcase ball and he was a die hard Clemson fan but he said Jack never even called him. Said he would've committed on the spot if he would've gotten an offer. It's sad because he'd probably be our best player along side Okey and Crownover. Never seem a kid hit the ball 420ft plus with a wood bat and throw 90+ at age 17 except for him. Start swinging the bats and be aggressive for once or get the hell out of the box

be interesting to see how new rules from power 5 autonomy

Mar 18, 2015, 8:09 AM

will impact recruiting. Bobby Hartin on his show was interviewing a lot of the state coaches in the preseason and they all seem to think the scholarship rules will change in favor of the big schools with the autonomy. Under autonomy, scholarship limit of 11.7 wont change, but they would be allowed to offer cost-of-attendance stipends and insurance benefits for players.

Here is a good article

Mar 18, 2015, 1:59 PM [ in reply to Re: BSB Update: Tigers fall to Chanticleers, drop below .500 on the season ]

You are correct. Jack is recruiting good kids and ballplayers but not the best like other top ten teams. He clearly is not a "closer" when it comes to getting elite talent like Dabo that other schools get-draft or not. Jack has not translated into a good older coach like Mike Martin at FSU or like Bill Wilhelm. At some point you have to go from a young RA-RA coach to a mentor and father figure for the players and have youthful assistants to help with recruiting. Some say he is a players coach, but I just dont see it. Either you change with the times or you dont and he clearly has not. There are many proven young hungry coaches that would bring a renewed sense of pride to the Clemson program. What we have done in football and are trying to do in basketball are perfect examples. We need passion and excitement, not him saying were not panicking. That was the dumbest quote ever.

Quite a mature and well thought out post from a guy who is fresh out of high school. (I assumed from you playing with Widener in Showcase tournaments) I am sure feelings get hurt and everyone does not get exactly what they want or feel that they are entitled to sometimes...but looking at Widener thus far for Carolina I fail to see what a big loss it was for the Tiger program? I am sure he is a great player and I am sure he would help the Clemson program in some way, but 2nd in line behind Crownover? Hmmmmmm...not drinking that punch.

Re: Level Playing field

Mar 18, 2015, 11:53 AM

The baseball draft levels the playing field more so than basketball or football. Where the difference is made is in the coaching. Big schools can pay well where small schools can't. No reason for Clemson to get out coached by anyone, but it is happening. Suggest getting Dabo involved in the hiring process. He seems to know how to pick coaches that create a winning culture.

we are in for a long season because we got VT next and they just beat UVA in a series and UVA was ranked in the Top 5 if not No. 1 I believe

I went to school at Coastal Carolina from 86-90 and worked as a beach Likeguard. I was born a Clemson fan but girls, beach and books won for a while. The baseball players were not friendly to anyone but they always had a good team. The beach is a good draw as the school has doubled twice since I left.

I was born an raised a Tiger so I took no pleasure in this loss. Let's bounce back really high and really quick or we are going to have the summer off early and a coaching change could be possible.

Really good hitting and ok pitching always win. We seem to be missing both.

I say we get some great looking girls together and tell them know if they win a bunch of gams we'll set them up!!

Go Tigers!!
