Correct. He got his rings. He’s good.

2 Championships and 10 years here says yes.

BV was an important piece to those Championships. Heck, this season alone he kept Clemson from turning into a dumpster fire when we could've turned out like Florida.

Unless there is some specific language that he shouldn't be in?

So we should also add Tony Elliot, Robbie Caldwell, Joey Batson, and many of our other coaches who were a apart of 2 Championships over 2 years?

Doubt that BV will make ROH, but he definitely deserves HOF recognition, and I think he will. In fact, I think I'll nominate him for the HOF.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

HC's only... if you go down that road

Dec 8, 2021, 11:56 AM

why not Jeff Scott? Invaluable recruiter, here forever, and won a couple of National Championships

At least wait until he retires from college football

Dec 8, 2021, 11:58 AM

He might win 34 NC at OK. If he does that, I'd say no. Not sure what the requirements are, but I wouldn't want a coach from another school on the Clemson RoH. Yes, BV was VERY instrumental in Clemson's success, but there has to be another way of honoring him. Just my 2 cents worth.

At least two coaches who left Clemson for other schools are in Clemson's HOF, John Heisman and Jess Neely.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm pretty sure these 2 were Head Coaches @ Clemson.***

Clemson alone had just about NADA to do with him being in anybody's Ring of Honor.

He could be honored along with one of the national championship teams. Alone? I doubt it.

And he comes back and duplicates his DC success here.

Then he and Dabo can enter the ROH together

If Clemson had shut down LSU in 2019 and Ohio State in 2020 (and then eventually Alabama the next week) thus leading to 4 rings in 5 years, then I'd probably say yes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not just now, but ANY TIME AND ANYBODY, I think these

types of decisions should only be made after the lens of history has had at least a decade to calibrate itself after the person has retired.

A perfect example of this would be Coach Cookie Monster at LSWho. Right after he won that Natty, I am sure there was talk of statues outside the stadium and all sorts of honors. Fast forward just two years, and where is he now?

The Clemson Ring of Honor is almost a Lifetime Honorarium. Actions on AND off the football field to support and advance Clemson, etc, etc. When someone says the name of one enshrined there, the first thought that should come to anyone's mind is: CLEMSON.

Coach Venables will always be a favorite among ex-Clemson coaches. But, he cut his teeth at Oklahoma, and now he is once again BACK at Oklahoma, finally as the Head Coach. Pretty sure that after his career is over, he will be most remembered for his ties there, with Clemson a very memorable footnote.

Now, if he were to come back here as a Head Coach at some point, and have major success, then this subject would surely be revisited. But, for now, NO RING OF HONOR SOUP FOR HIM. :)
