It’s interesting how differently we treat

Mar 2, 2021, 12:32 PM

Politicians and Celebrities than we do each other. I say this because I constantly see people on here saying that DJT Jr. is always “coked out” or that Biden is “cognitively impaired” or how rapey certain celebs are....when in reality, none of it could be true, but we just assume and make it real in our minds.

When I work with someone I just think darn, that dude is high strung as crap. I never think, wow, he must be coked out of his mind.

I work with a lady that is just slow to the punch all the time and she is older but I do not think she is cognitively impaired, I just think she has a ton of experience, is calculated and slows down to make what she thinks is her best effort.

It’s just odd how we all treat people in the limelight vs our own lives.

Jesus, I smoke pot literally every day, all day, for the last 3 years solid. Somehow I am able to show up on time and manage a department.

I have also been through major alcohol withdrawal, the kind you are supposed to be hospitalized for because you actually do hallucinate and lose your grip on reality around day 5, then it gets worse from there. If a friend had given me a handful of bennies I could have had a seizure and died. Only two classes of drugs can kill you from withdrawal, alcohol and Bendizoprams.

Pot on the other hand does none of these things, is not addictive, does not destroy cells in your body, unless you smoke it, and has no long-term effects on the brain.

We have had this one backwards for a long time.

no, the only drug I use is Marijuana, it is the bee's knees.

Alcohol eventually would have killed me at a young age had I kept down that path. Marijuana will not.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ehhhh, you might be going alone on that one.

Mar 2, 2021, 12:41 PM

If I see a fully functional adult a little too energetic, I'm assuming Adderall here in 2021.

Primarily with women, but if I see a grown woman just a little more chill than normal or the slightest bit slurry, I'm going with Xanax. Dudes just don't really do xanax for whatever reason.

Mar 2, 2021, 2:10 PM

has lived a boring, normal life I guess I'm a little naive. Once upon a time husband of KMS told me that one of my good mom friends (wealthy, beautiful, had an "idyllic"" life) was shooting heroin and doing coke. As a former narc, he saw track marks between her toes... and noticed other spotty behavior. I told him he was crazy and just overly suspicious of people because of his former career path.

He was the only one not surprised when she ended up divorced, lost custody of her kids and spent the better part of two years in and out of rehab.

That story reminds me of me. I got the kids, the house, I got it all.

Meanwhile, she is now up north messing with who and what idk.

She recently asked me if I'd give her one of my vehicles. Nope. Nada. Not happening, you made your bed, you sleep in it.

manac

I have a pie theory that I think might apply here.

We only know about celebrities (I am including politicians here) through the headlines. As we have noted before, those headlines tend to be extreme and sensationalized. And that kind of stuff makes up the entire pie of our experiences with them - so we judge them harshly by that.

The people that we really know in our personal lives seem much more normal (for lack of a better term) because we see all of the "normal" things that they do everyday. Even if they do things similar to the sensationalized things that celebrities do, it makes up a much smaller piece of the pie that is our understanding of who they are. So we are more likely to see these extreme things as unusual and as a small part of the overall picture - and to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Wouldn't we all be better off if we remember this when we read these exaggerated stories ?

For me, I'd add people who boast about what they do with charities, etc.

I'll add more to the ex wife post from above and can share her fb posts if anyone needs proof. The ex posts on fb about giving to the homeless, etc. Yet she doesn't even take care of her own kids.

From the outside looking in, she'd look like an awesome person. For those of us who TRULY know her, we know what she is.

(To point out, helping the homeless is a good thing but geez you also have kids. )

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Amen to that.

Mar 2, 2021, 3:57 PM

People consider it gossip when it's someone we know, but if it's someone famous on TV, we don't really say it like that. I don't see the difference. If you don't know it's true, then it shouldn't be said.

I find conspiracy theories to be a large-scale form of gossip.
