Seriously, can someone explain why they cut the clock off in the last 2 minutes?? My granddaughter played high school soccer. I never figured that out. Dumbest thing in sports.

Sidelines in soccer are strict and exact.
As for the game clock...been a while since I focused on international soccer but traditionally the game talk is kept solely by the ref, who had the discretion to stop his clock for long stoppages like a team stalling or an injury. Then, fans would never know where the clock was relative to what they saw on the TV or in the stadium. Sometime in the past decade or so the ref started informing the booth about the amount of stoppage time that they had added back in (up to five minutes or so, depending on how messy the game was). But I agree...no reason the ref can't simply signal a game clock stop and start when they see fit. Better for the viewers.
