I'm not a fire Brownell type. I tend to be overly patient

and think a revolving door of coaches is bad regardless of the sport. That being said, Brownell doesn't seem to be a fit philosophically with the other major sports coaches we have at Clemson. Monte Lee and Dabo seem to have a similar approach as far as where they want their team to focus. You can hear similar phraseology in their interviews. Coach Brownell just doesn't seem to have that same approach that is working very well in our other major sports.

I've always said

Brownell would do good at a school where the school recruits itself. He's a good coach. But there are only a handful of those schools and he'll never get there.

Take a look at the teams...

Mar 16, 2016, 12:19 PM

who we beat in January. Do you really think we could have had that run without some pretty good talent on the team? How do you figure?

Talent isn't the issue with Brownell. He's had enough talent to at least make the NIT every year. The issues are motivation and consistently getting the potential out of your players. In my opinion those issues are prime indicators of poor coaching. Need a good example of that? See Tommy Bowden.

I disagree. If he keeps it up, we will be back

Difference between having fire in your belly or not

For some reason, even though, except for a couple of weeks after the Oklahoma playoff win, Brownell has a very bland uninspiring personality. I worked in the mental health field for a few years, and he acts as if he is on anti-depressant meds., bless his heart (which I mean). We need to find a coach with a fiery positive inspirational approach like Dabo and Monte!

Every time I hear Brownell on the radio, I think

Mar 16, 2016, 12:42 PM

"Wow, this guy gets it. He completely understands the challenge he faces at Clemson, and he knows exactly what it's gonna take. He really knows basketball and I have complete confidence that he will get the job done!".

Then we have another disappointing loss, or disappointing season.

So, my problem isn't with his choice of words or his approach, it's with his results. When I look at the record, any improvement is marginal over 6 years (at least the record doesn't reflect any). No NCAA again. No post season again. I really, really like Brownell and want him to succeed here, but at some point, like next year, he's got to quit coming up short and actually get it done. 7 years is a long time no matter what you're talking about, and it's an eternity in college basketball. My allegiance is to Clemson first, and if we have any coach who is not showing sufficient measurable improvement or any sign that the program is heading in the right direction at a reasonable pace, then that coach must go. I don't see how that's unreasonable at all or makes anybody a hater or a bad fan.

Couldn't agree with you more...

I don't understand how this is even debatable at this point. Says the right things, but it doesn't translate into results. We're still losing games we shouldn't, many times in horrible fashion and the trend hasn't changed. Dabo survived West Virginia putting up a 70-burger on us because he reacted to it, made changes, and continued with his plan, showing consistent improvement in both recruiting and on-field results. We're handing Brownell a brand-new facility and he is doing nothing with it.

He talks about the ACC record, and it's good compared to what we've had for sure.
But that's not the problem. It's the November-December game.

The ACC record means absolutely NOTHING... and there are no

numbers, stats, or results to back it saying it does...

The ACC record has not translated into NCAAT berths.

The ACC record has not translated into NIT berths.

The ACC record has not helped us in the ACCT, as Brownell has 2 ACCT wins in 6 years.

it means nothing
