I'm no coach and i'm happy with our win but for the 2nd

Oct 11, 2014, 8:03 PM

time this season on 4th and short, we have taken the snap out of shotgun and NOT gotten the first down. I know that Morris said that Watson, and I assume Stoudt, isn't comfortable taking the snap under center... Stoudt looked pretty comfortable taking the snap under center on the last play of the game. It looked like he gained about a yard as well. Maybe the quarterbacks should practice getting under center and get comfortable taking a snap and falling forward for an inch. It may be the difference between a win and a loss.

I wish people would not use the last play of the game (which is a formality play) and we are essentially downing the ball just to run the last 21 seconds off AS AN EXAMPLE. That play is the most meaningless play in the entire game

I don't think the last play was meaningless. Louisville had not given up. I was nervous given our lack of experience with the QB under center. The snap could have gone bad. Cole could have been pushed back. Lots could have gone wrong and we didn't have enough room to have a protective victory formation and take a knee.

Maybe I was overly nervous because of the flow of the game, but that last play was not a gimme play. We had to earn it and Cole did. I don't think people are wrong to draw a parallel between this and the goal line/4th down plays earlier and in the FSU game. It's a very valid point, IMO.

Ridiculous - the coaches could have given this one away too.

College qbs can take a snap under center...

Good comment. If a college QB and center can not work together to take a snap under center, it is b/c it is not taught or practiced. Pee Wee football starts under center, not in the shot gun folks. At over a million per year, the expectation would be the coordinator could teach this.

Congrats to Chad for adjusting in the second half and taking what the defense gave him. Other than the OSU bowl game, this is his greatest second half play calling against a decent team.
