Wide Receiver U: Talent brings in talent
Clemson has a history over churning out great receivers, but it’s been taken to another level of the past several seasons with guys like Nuk Hopkins and Sammy Watkins. There really isn't another school in all the land who over the last 5 football seasons ( years to the non-football folk ) that can come anywhere near the title that Clemson has a stranglehold on .

competitive and it is quite an honor to be there. I would like Clemson coaches make the special teams special - make it competitive and an honor to be on it. In the past, I think they put a lot of players on it, who either played no where else or if they did play, they thought of special teams as second teams. Coaches make the special teams SPECIAL FORCES!

Coach Jeff Scott is going to be a great Head Coach somewhere

I hate to say it but Jeff has been groomed for that
since birth. Coach Brad Scott told a great story
when Jeff was 9 or 10 he was a ball boy on the sidelines
and they needed a big play, and called time out. The coaches
and players were huddled on the sidelines and they
were saying run this play or that play. It kinda got quite
and voice said run this play it has been open all day. Brad
said he looked at Bowden and and facial expression was "what do you think"
Nah, he just a kid what does he know? Brad said I knew then
Jeff was going to be a good coach one day. He also said
we should have run the play Jeff suggested it would have been a
first down or possibly a TD. That is one of my favorite stories.

reason to waste a year of eligibility of any of the freshmen. I know they're supposed to be pretty good but I don't think any of them are "Sammy-esk" by coming in and making a big splash. I'd hate to see them for a couple plays a game a lose a year. Don't get me wrong, I hope one or more of them could win a starting spot but I just don't see it. My two cents...

I don't disagree except for this: how many of them are we actually going to get five years out of? They're all so good that they might as well be in getting live reps against real opposition. Save the redshirt for a medical redshirt if they need it.
There are certainly guys that it can make all the difference for, but I think the reality is that we don't sign those guys much anymore and a redshirt just means we only get to watch them for three years.

You want the freshmen to get reps so we continue to not have drop off at the position when someone declares early or gets injured. Also it helps when in the fourth quarter they are going honey DBs with 70+ snaps and they only have 20 or so.

If Freshmen don't get reps at a school, the reps go where they can get them. Nowadays, these kids want to go where there is a good chance and a good history that guys will get a shot at PT and have a good pipeline to the NFL. Also, they want to go where they will get headlines and be in the conversations. That is why the big interest in the secheat. They do get the hype, whether deserved, or not. Even the schools with poor histories will get attention due to the hype.

Win a first or second string position they will play as a freshman. It's important for us to give them all a shot.
The best recruits want to play right away. I'm sure that many of them ask if they will play their freshman year.(of course lining up across from our defensive line answers the question whether they need to or not) Mitch Hyatt was thrown into the fire and hit a homerun at the most important position across from Shaq.
I'm sure they all get to be apart of the decision as to whether they redshirt or not with strong advice from their position coach and Dabo.
I love seeing them grow as long as we win...lol

Is it possible some of these WR's who will warm the bench for 2-plus yrs would rather start at CB than play special teams and 3rd string WR? I expect many started on O and D in high school.
Let the open-minded kids practice with the O and D, and give them a fair shot to start at WR in jr and sr years. The bottom of our WR depth may be as talented as our 2-deep CB/S depth. It sure looks that way. Unconventional but rational.

Some of my favorite parts of this story was how success breeds success, and it really does. When these HS Jr's and Sr's see the success we are having at certain position, make them work even harder in HS to make it in sharing in that same success. And where ever that HS kid lives, there thoughts are of Clemson where those special skilled position are being talked about and heard about. Just as Jeff touching on the subject of basically rooting out the Prima donna type players that believe they don't have to work into their position, the ones that believe they are so good that they can walk out of HS into college believing they are starters bc of what they done in HS. That mentality comes from people telling them how great they are in HS. Jeff and the rest of our coaches pick those out the first minute of talking to those type's bc the only thing they talk about, is how great they are. They want the guys that talk about how willing they are to work for a starting job if not this year, maybe next year. And maybe that is why we don't a lot of players that our fan base thought we should have went after the hardest. A prima donna attitude can poison the thoughts of other players.

Some of these guys, most actually will not play through their senior year. Williams wasn't going to. Injuries prevented him leaving early as they did for Peake. Had Peake been healthy his entire career he would have gone 1-2 years ago. Anyone think Artavis Scott lays beyond next season? Anyone think Cain plays more than 2 more tears in Clemson?
With these freshmen, get them garabge time against tired DB's, build their confidence. Let them see what they have to do to block college DB's, perfect their routes, get a handle on the O, see that they are a huge part of the game even if the ball is not coming to them. Do all of it in a low pressure setting of a blowout. Now, come their soph. season they have a mental grasp of what they're supposed to do and they don't have to think about it. It also helps the vets to see that these yound guys will be given a chance and if their play slips and they lack effort, a freshman or soph. is right there to take the spot they didn't work hard enough to hold.
We're getting guys that are FBS ready right now, coming out of HS. Not like Sammy ready, but ready. TJ Chase & Cornell Powell, are both physically ready right now. Overton's only holdup is mass but could still be effective with his raw ability. He and Mike Williams are the only Wr's 6'4 or taller.
