An employee is going to make a decision that is going to be all over the press and so he let's his bosses know what he is doing.
That allows everybody to be on the same page when the korncoots of the world come calling.
Anytime I'm going to do something that might hit the fan, I always let my boss know even though in my spot in the pecking order I don't have to.

Most of the time. I excepted those times when I knew he would agree and thereby build trust between us. He treated me the same, getting involved only when he knew we were like minded on an issue in order to protect me from his bosses.

Quick clarification - the release was simply sent to the Board of Trustees today before it was released, their approval was not needed.
