I'm a little worried about this hotshot QB recruit for SCAR.

Oct 26, 2018, 9:54 AM

Ryan Hilinski is a solid 4-star out of California, according to 247, Rivals, & ESPN. He plays for Orange Lutheran High School, which is well known for producing top-notch college QB's. And if the Lutherans win tonight they'll finish the season above .500, which is incredible. I'm sure we all remember the success the Gamecocks have had with recent 4-star QB's like Conner Mitch and Brandon Mcilwane... ####, they almost upset The Citadel in 2015. And of course, now they are soaring to new heights with 4-star QB's Jake Bentley and Dakereon Joyner...

I don't know, but I'm afraid they may challenge Kentucky for 4th place in the SEC East with this Hilsinki kid.

Well I am afraid they will start to see transfers , , they have Joyner and you know Bentley has a couple of years left , because he was supposed to be in high school . This kid from Calif. probably has not visited Yet or he would have seen the trophy case , graveyard , and a trip to 5 points for a good Gunfight .

I think he has visited Scar and Muschamp must have given him a bag. However, he has now been offered by Stanford I believe and this has him wavering somewhat on his commitment. I read that somewhere but don't know where.

Not sure how good this guy will be, but I have my doubts he will switch to Stanford. I watched the ESPN doc on this kid and his brother. He really does not want to play in stadiums that his brother played in previously before he died. I feel sure his parents would prefer not to go back to those stadiums. Probably why the entire family is moving to SC.

That being said, the coots could sign Tom Brady and still suck because they have so many other issues on that team. 2 and 3 star players are only go to get you so far especially in the trenches.

On a funnier note, I was listening to Mickey Plyler yesterday and he said that Bentley was #3 on McShay's QB draft board. I literally laughed out loud as I was driving. What a joke that McShay is paid to come up with this crap.

precisely the reason Mcshay and kiper work for espn and not

an NFL team! These two are bumbling idiots but they laugh all the way to the bank because ESPN still pays them to spread their misinformed draft info! Hopefully they aren't paying them much.

Yes, I understand he wants to get as far away from football as possible. Plus, didn't they let his other brother into med school as the clincher?

They probably allowed his brother into med school and gave his parents jobs as well.

Hard to say this but I hope the kid does well except on the days he plays us.. Can't imagine what that family has gone through. As a parent with 2 teenagers it strikes a different tone when a family goes through a tragedy like this.

That being said, not sure he has made a great college selection if he indeed has aspirations of playing in the NFL. Not sure Chump and his super powerful offensive scheme will prepare him for the NFL.

The family is moving to South Carolina...

because u5c gave one of the other brothers a full ride to the medical school in order to secure the commitment of their prize QB.

If he's having to settle for the medical school at u5c, his options were pretty limited. If the other brother could have gotten into Stanford, this family would have absolutely stayed on the left coast.

Every QB they get is their "next savior" and none of them ever seem to live up to all the hype and expectations. This one will be no different. We have 125 years of proof to support this contention.

I’ve read where this family has had a tough go of it lately and are looking for a fresh start away from CA. He sounds like a good kid from a good family.

A couple of things:
1. I’ve never been real impressed (generally speaking) of west coast talent
2. How many “can’t miss” QBs has SC had.

I’m not too worried.

I know this will be hard but stay classy. This family had no idea their son was going to kill himself after winning the bowl game for Washington State. I sent condolences and prayers to their family and they responded graciously.
If this was a Clemson commit we would be excited too. Kid has it and did well at the Elite events. I wish he could have found a better place to heal, but for those Clemson fans that have class, show it. Instead of assuming things, research before you shoot off at the mouth and show your lack of decency or we will become like our Gamecluck adversaries.

Ok, i agree to stay classy. My daughter is a Gamehen, because their PT school is better than Augusta U's, so i always try to remember that Chickens are people, too.

But c'mon, we're gonna avoid trashing
one particular Chicken for the next 3-4 years because his family has been thru ####?

No, you never know the #### someone else has gone thru. The Helinskis are not alone.
Their #### has been publicized; others', maybe not.
I reserve the right to treat all Chickens the way they deserve--as fellow men, they deserve respect; as participants in the game, the game deserves respect; but as opponents, they usually demonstrate that they have a long way to climb to reach our level.
If they are inferior but classy, I'm fine with them. But I'm not giving Helsinki a pass from being a Chicken. That's a choice he knowingly made.
3 years from now, I wonder if he'll be a better QB than he was in high school, or worse?

thought, I don't think I will. I have no doubt you meant well, but I really don't need a lecture from you about "showing class" and "shooting off my mouth" and "lacking decency". You need to take a step back, pal. My post had nothing to do with any of that. It was merely a joke about how this QB commit has the Gamecocks already anointing him as their next savior. If you read their message boards, they already have him stepping on campus as a true freshman and leading them to the promised land.

Yeah, I knew the story about his brother. So what. You act like I stood up as the funeral and cracked a joke or something. I hate that it happened, and I feel sorry for the family and all that. But almost everybody I know has dealt with some tragedy in their life. My father was a lineman and electrocuted when I was 15 months old. My mom was 8 months pregnant when it happened, and between the trauma of his death and the sedatives she was given, my brother only lived a few hours when he was born. I lost my dad and brother before I was out of diapers.

One of my good friends growing up lost both parents at the age of 11 from a car wreck and bounced around between other families until he went to college. I know a 19 year old girl who is fighting for her life as we speak, she is eat up with cancer and probably won't see 20. I just visited her in the hospital Tuesday night. I doubt many people reading this haven't dealt with some sort of tragic event or the unexpected loss of a loved one. If you haven't, you're very lucky.

So I wish the kid well in life. I was just making a joke about the Gamecocks, that's all. Nothing more, nothing less. And you can either climb off your sanctimonious high horse or not, it matters not to me.

USCe failed in getting the next DW4, now they are looking for the next TL. I feel for the Hilinski family and wish no ill will on them. If Hilinski comes to play QB at USCe, I think Lumpy's future there may hinge on how it goes. Lumpy seems to be handling USCe QB issues as poorly as he handled QB issues at Florida. If Hilinski is a good as advertised, he will not want to ride the pine and watch Bentley throw INTs.

It is funny so many USCe fans enjoyed the KB/ TL issue and all side with KB. Now many of those same fans can't wait for Hilinski to get there and replace Bentley.

Darkside, i wasn't really aiming that at you. Sometimes people tend to go overboard. I am no ones judge and surely know I am more a@$hole than saint. Just didn't want a thread where this kid was tore down for choosing our rival. Hos family seems classy, maybe that will help the chickens. Peace and love and one Clemson family.

I really feel for this family losing their brother and son and i pray for their healing but we cannot run from our problems/tragedies. They will still be with you and only time can heal wounds along with the Lord. If his dream school is Stanford he should follow his dreams. Saying this we as Clemson or Carolina fans have the right and i might say duty to dislike each other in a healthy way and dis on one another as rivals do.
