But Wisconsin has a uniquely annoying ring to it.

Hung out with several Bostonians during my time at Clemson. Knew them all through Rugby. One I could not understand at all. Super thick accent - good dude. Another was a roommate. Irish alcoholic Marine close talker. You could get wasted from him talking. Basically a pretty good dude, but we scrapped a bit. He end up effing up and doing some prison time. Third dude was probably one of the best athletes I played with. He ended up breaking his leg and was done. Shame because he was the type that could have gone to Europe and played professionally. He and one of his friends ended up on that show the Amazing Race, and won.
But I agree, Boston done right is a pretty cool accent. It's sort of like a.northern version of New Orleans.

how accents and regional behavior go hand-in-hand. And I'm not sure which follows which.
For example, that slow-talking, molasses-mouth Southern drawl (the landed aristocracy version, not the trailer park in myrtle beach version) fits with the slow-moving, rolling mannerisms of Southerners.
Meanwhile, the fast-talking, kinetic Boston accent fits with a people a trigger away from fighting someone or something.
And the Minnesota/Sconnie accent fits people who generally are a bunch of lovable dorks.
Like, if you put the Minnesota accent on Boston folks, it just wouldn't work.

I used to talk about this with the Amazing Race guy. We concluded that due to population size and cold temps, this caused northerners to talk faster, in general - especially city northerners.

Hard to soft. Hard to explain. Hard vowels to softer vowel, but still some southern country. Generalizations, of course.

While tearing out the labor and delivery @ GMH...

we had a contract with a hardware and door supplier which had an office in the Merovan Center. A lady named Maryellen was in charge of their responsibilities to my project. We talked a lot on the phone and ole 88 fell in love with Ms Maryellen.
After some stressing about being married and having a house full of kids I broke down and went to her office to see if she was as beautiful as I imagined. I sat in her office and talked with her for about 45 minutes until we discussed where we were born and raised.
I, in Rockwood and she in Oak Ridge, about 15-20 miles by highway. Prob 12 as the crow flies. I realized she sounded just like my cousins and was really glad that it wasn't true love, I wasn't going to leave my wife and felt good that she was uglier than UGA's mascot.
I'd have to go with the accents of those from the Tennessee Valley.
