GITT and tell me how your turkey day went

Nov 26, 2021, 9:25 AM

ate at in-laws. Had to help brother in law who was trying to fix a trailer jack with a sledge hammer, missed, and threw the sledge into his quarter panel so his door wouldn't open

Didn't take long there, they don't like each other.

Came home and cooked, cleaned for my side of the family.

Cooked my first turkey. Rosemary was a little heavy but it actually turned out good.

Everybody liked my 10 hour smoked over oak coal pulled pork BBQ (dawghater23)

Now we have so much food we will be eating on this until Christmas.

MIL and M got along better than I expected and seemed to have a good time.

They both only brought food I asked for so nothing I don’t like was guilt pushed onto my plate.

Turkey turned out great and I got a small one so there won’t be turkey for 2 weeks.

Nice thing about having to drive both of them is I controlled when they came and when they left.

The mashed potato pancakes from the leftovers this am were on point.

Parents-in-law and me madre came to our new house. Had a fire going in the pit and got some turkey wings on the grill. I put more effort into the glaze than I did for the dry run and somehow it wasn't as good. Still darn tasty and I look forward to eating them cold. My wife made some face-melting stuffing from the NY Treason and parental units brought turkey breast, homemade green bean casserole (no canned fried onions), and desserts. Never had sticky pudding before and recommend.

Went to a couple of friends house for Scotch Eggs brunch. Sipped champagne instead of Mimosas. Food and friends were good, one couple came back in from Texas and were great to see again. Back home for dinner with turkey breast, sweet potato casserole, corn bread dressing, along with roasted brussel sprouts. Lazy football afternoon and evening.

Turkey on a Traeger better than fried. Had ham. Deviled eggs. Stuffing. Pigs in a blanket. Venison sausage. Ham and cheese appetizers. Broccoli salad. Cranberry sawce. Cheese pie. Green beans. Butter beans. MacNCheese, Terra Missou (sp?) pound cake with almond icing, beer, one brown likker drink. Finished off with a recliner and some football. Erryjuan got along. Just finished a glorious poop.

Went and saw mom and took her a plate.

Shitstorm as usual.

95 yo grandfather really getting hit by dementia now and he has the sundowner effects every day when it gets dusk. Basically presenting as panic attacks so I’ve been over there every evening calming him down for a minimum of two hours till it passes. Just effed up all around. I love my grandparents but I’m really starting to think that modern medicine has now extended our lifespans too far past the points where quality of life drops off drastically.

Night before made breakfast casserole.

Woke up, went to the mountains. Hiked to some hot springs and soaked for an hour. Had a great pool and didn’t get run off by SantaFeCrystalGypsies until later in the morning.

Then we hiked and harvested our Christmas tree from the forest. Dog was tired and cute all the rest of the day.

Got home and roasted Cornish game hens on veggies, plus made a fancy side dish. Side dish was pie crust with roasted veggies, a cream sauce, and orange. Some call it a Galette. It was great!

Then made a fire, churned some ice cream, baked some chocolate chip cookies, and watched football.

only was for 3. Turned out great, along with the necessary sides.

Ate way too much, to the point where I was too full for alcohol.

Plus have a ton of leftovers.

Oh well.

Really good x 2

1:00 meal at house of brothers MIL, so him, his wife, her mom, her 95 y.o. grammy, her cousin, me, wife, daughter, mother, and another brother (the cast iron killer). Traditional southern thanksgiving. Turkey was good but missing “something” but nothing throwing some gravy on top of couldn’t fix (I usually don’t use gravy). Everything was good, even my scalloped taters even though they were pretty dense. Flavor was good.

Home and make the ba’corn for the evening meal. Went over very well b/c at least two thirds of it was gone out of large 10” cast iron skillet. Even SIL that is (most of the time) vegetarian had a little. Too many people so won’t go over the list but my wife’s older children that she barely sees now showed up so that was good. More of a yankee thanksgiving since roots are from Philly but all was good, even the mashed turnips. Stuffed so crashed for 45 minutes after the meal, but had plenty of wine and some beers. Lost at Pictionary, sing a long with BIL playing guitar, the normal thanksgiving traditions for that crew.

All in all very successful and I don’t feel like I gained 30 pounds.

It was good. We didn't know until Yesterday who all would

Nov 26, 2021, 3:59 PM

make it. Ended up just being my dad because his sweet lady wasn't feeling great. Pseudo-Step-Sister and her kids were also a possibility but she really doesn't like to travel when outnumbered by kids.

Had a smoked turkey breast and a pork loin. Turkey took about an hour more than I aimed for.

Raiders beat the Cowboys, so that was nice.
