Will NIL affect IPTAY giving?

Jul 4, 2021, 12:23 PM

With athletes getting NIL money, do they really need my money for a scholarship they find is worthless and holds them back?

Wondering what you think.

I believe it will. People are tired of seeing others feel entitled and the cost of tickets are going through the roof. NASCAR kept raising ticket prices over the years and look at Bristol nowadays, barely half full. The sport of college football is in disarray from the root of all evil $$. Let’s hope the new playoff format will work out and these guys realize what a great sport they are blessed to be playing.

I think it will affect the giving decisions of donors who already have significant expenses with kids in high school and college in addition to heavy debt to maintain a lifestyle. Will be interesting to see if or how NIL will cause changes in the manner athletic scholarships are given. Little doubt IPTAY dues will increase to fund the additional sports coming on line.

would be interesting if they did an either or style. You can make NIL money and pay your own way thru school or you can be on scholarship and the school will pay. For the big name kids its double dipping...for the "no names" that work just as hard every day it's gotta be a bit of a slap in the face. Far more worried about how the booster influences things than guys getting a few bucks on their own Tee Shirt brand... unless of course a booster buys 10,000 of them... which is exactly how this is going to work in some places.

Yeah, I agree. This will end up being a big mess that the sport won't recover from unless they eliminate it.

Agreed. The beginning is going to be a messy free for all, then the regulations will start flowing in.

And by regulations, I mean those with money and power will demand a bigger cut.

I know it’s not very “free market” but I feel like there should be a NIL annual cap per player of $200k. Taxes eat a big part of it and soon the kids will probably have to pay some type of manager fee once the hands start coming out.

I’ll refrain until they provide an ROI for the investment.

Since it’s officially a business now, I’d like my $10k to be applied to shares of IPTAY stock or construction bonds that pay a dividend/interest.

I’m on the fence. All in this year but recruiting for NIL opportunities makes me a little tired of paying close to 10K for 4 tickets, parking, etc.

IPTAY raising their prices is affecting my thoughts

Jul 6, 2021, 9:38 AM

about continuing with IPTAY more than anything else right now.

If Clemson keeps going up on their donor level requirements and ticket costs then I'm quickly approaching the point of punting IPTAY. On a retired budget there is only so much money one wants to put into 7 Saturdays a year and IPTAY is quickly approaching the "costing too much for the amount of enjoyment I get out of it" stage...

There are over 550 student athletes at Clemson. The vast majority won’t see a dime from NIL. Some of you on this board act like everyone will receive tens of thousands. That will not be the case at all.

players with their N.I.L.

The money will not be outrageous, but it could have something close to $500 or more per month for some athletes, and $250 or less per month for other atlhletes.

Businesses will approach players for possible N.I.L. The Appalachian Council of Governments (COG) Upstate counties of Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and Pickens Counties have more than 1.14M people and a lot businesses with opportunities for the players. Greenville County is the most populated County in S.C. with a population of 507,003. Spartanburg County has a population of 307,617 (5th largest County in SC), Anderson County has a population of 198,064 (9th in SC), and Pickens County population of 124,029 (14th largest County population in S.C.)

The Central Midlands Council of Governments has a population of 725,000. Richland County has the largest population of the COG with 411,357 (2nd largest County in SC). Lexington County has a population of 290,278, 6th largest in SC..

The Berkeley/Charleston/Dorchestor COG has a pollution of 784,700. Charleston County has a population (3rd highest in SC), Berkeley County has a population of 215,044. Finally, Dorchester County has a population of 158,299. The total BCD COG population is 784,700.

All of this data, especially in the urban COGs listed above provides the Clemson players looking for a N.I.L. with many options.

I left off Charleston County's population of 401,165.***

A buddy of mine ditched iptay already….has a parking space at Tiger Park, buys his tickets online or from buddies. Then he can go to big games no matter the cost and get in the lower end games for peanuts if he wants to go. We’re going to see more and more people go that route probably. He felt messed over when his dad passed and they wouldn’t let him keep getting the family tickets even though he dad been paying the dues himself for treats.
