Attending the Clemson/USuCk Game in WB?

Oct 7, 2013, 2:10 PM

So, it's getting to be that time of year, and I'm debating attending that game. I went to a few in WB with my family growing up, but the last game I attended a game there was a UGA/USC game (when Quincy Carter threw like 5 picks and UGA got trounced)... Anyway, I went with a diehard UGA fan, and we were spit on, heckled, pushed, shoved - and then had a SC fan throw a full beer can at my buddy's car, cracking a window on I-26. That was it - I decided I'd never attend another game there, and I've convinced my friends and family to do the same. But, now I'm a little older and have rethought it - that's exactly what they want - to intimidate the visiting fans into not going back in there. So, I'm debating going. Do we have any others that plan on attending? Stories (good or bad, from games in the last few years)? Suggestions? Just trying to make my mind up pretty soon, as I'll have more than a few logistics to work out if I decide to go. (For what it's worth, my gf, friends and family all say I'm nuts, and if I go, I'm going alone.)

I can say this, I went to the last game at WB and I dealt with the same stuff (spitting, throwing beer, cussing, etc.) I don't think they have changed much. I always go to support my tigers but I could do without the crap fans they have over there

You've got idiots in all fan bases.

I along with 99% of this board would never mess with anyone's car, however, I have on 2 separate occasions witnessed drunks breaking antennas off of an NC St and Ga Tech car while on the way to DV over the years

I watched a UGA guy throw beer all over a family with kids due to someone telling him to settle down with the foul language. He was escorted out but that didn't change my view of UGA fans overall.

1 or 2 instances in WB shouldn't create your view of the overall atmosphere in Columbia. I was with a group of 15-20 Clemson and USC grads at the last 2 games in DV and WB and people on both sides could not have been more pleasant at each stadium. It really depends on where you are and what you are doing. Both times we were in high dollar parking and high dollar seats, the fans were the same. I have sat in worse seats at each and seen similar results. I am sure near the student sections or way up high it could get a little testy but not enough to paint an entire fan base

My fiance and i went to the 2009 game and we had some friends with us and the 4th qtr rolled around and at about the 8:00 min mark i looked at her and told her to let's go ahead and go to beat the traffic and then as we were walking out we were getting yelled at and water bottles thrown at us! All they kept saying was that the tickets were good for 4qtrs! That has to be the worst fan base besides UGA! I'm seriously thinking about going to this year's game beacause i feel the biggest beatdown coming onto them since the 2003 63-17 game in BILLY BRICE lol. Go TIGERS!

If anything, their behavior probably is worse. I don't go there anymore. If I want to be around that type trash, I'll just go to the land fill or stop off at a dumpster. I do go to all home and several away games, but I pass on that one now.

That's exactly my thought too...

But I won't stand for being physically assaulted either. I have already decided that "if" I go, I won't imbibe at all, and will probably dress fairly neutral. I just predict an epic beatdown and would love to see it in person, but cannot risk being taunted into doing something that may have lasting repercussions.

Most Capon fans are just obnoxious and mouthy....

but in reality there is nothing intimidating about them, which, ironically, is very similar to their football team.

I will never set foot back in that #### hole ever. Too many rednecks inside and too many hos outside.

That's exactly what they want though.

And from what I've learned over the years, there is definitely something to the home field advantage. Each seat we occupy is one less for a drunk gaycock to yell slurs and try to disrupt our team. The best thing we can do is show up in large numbers and show we're not intimidated by their redneck antics.

We have been to many Clemson vs USC games at WB including 2011. EVERY TIME there has been some type of incident. Not as bad as some have relayed, although when an intoxicated hillbilly wearing garnet got in our daughter's face and pushed her, I was afraid my husband was going to end up in a fight. I said I would never go back, but my son-in-law made a great point. He said, "Bet Tajh, Sammy, Coach Swinney, and company hate going there, too, but they don't have a choice. We need to go and stand with them." I will be there!

You're right, and I'll probably go...

Oct 7, 2013, 8:36 PM

But there are a few key differences. One, they have police protection. That sounds dramatic, but it's true. Two, they get to do their talking on the field where it matters, not trying to rationalize with some drunken fan. I just hope we're able to score quickly and frequently, much like the past two weeks, and take the hostile atmosphere out of the game. We'll see... As of right now though, I'm leaning toward attending.

I'll be there and I really hope I am surrounded by Tigers!***

they were intimidating, but the worst things:

I can't stand to hear that dern chicken cockadoodledoodling.
I can't stand that dern music they have started playing and those white rags they whip around.
I can't stand that stupid little chicken c thing they have started doing with their hands as though it is frightening.

So, no, I'll watch with my Clemson Club people at our viewing party locale.... not going to Willy B anymore.

Oct 7, 2013, 11:02 PM

In my younger days, I had no problem with that. But a trip to Leeds Ave a few years ago kind of made me rethink that, so when I've been provoked as of late, I've always walked away. Not sure I would/could with all the hype in that stadium. And I've actually been to a ton of games in Athens. Then again, most all my friends are Bulldogs, so I've never really had a problem down there.

1. Ignore their fans. Understand getting beer thrown on you\heckled by drunk students and USUC trailer park alums is a real possibility. Especially for a rivalry game at Night on a holiday weekend.

2. If #### really bothers you wear Neutral Colors. USuC fans are too dumb to pay attention to which team you're actually cheering for. White Clemson shirt\Jacket will probably work as well.

*I'd probably leave the kids at home for away Night games in general especially Columbia.
