I'll admit that I'm a pessimist when it comes to Clemson FB.

I just don't feel we're part of the elite group, and may never get there. We have not proven we belong this year by losing big to FSU and to SC. With that, there's no respect from the media or teams like Bama, LSU, Oregon, FSU, Ohio State (they believe we should not be at the OB), and now none from the Gamecocks.

We're a pretty good team but not a dominate team. We've lost 5 straight to the what use to be our doormat. Recruiting is pretty good (mid top 25) and we can get noticed by the top recruits and in some cases get them to commit but in the end lose them to other teams. However, 4 and 5 recruits don't seem to have the same impact on our team as compared to other teams with 4 and 5 star recruits. Is it player development?

I like Dabo and may be his long range vision will get us there but it sure is hard watching Auburn and SC and FSU doing well.

While the Valley is like no other place and our fans are great and our facilities are new and nice enough, we're just missing something. What that something is, I don't know but it's that "it" that makes a team great and we missing that secret piece.

Will we win tomorrow night? I don't know but I've got my doubts based on the FSU and SC games this year. We lost two years ago to a WVU team that I did not consider great. While we beat LSU last year, I believe that win can be in large part credited to Miles' poor play calling at the end of the game. Not to mention a lucky 4th down catch (poor throw by Boyd (some say it was on purpose) but a heck of a catch by Nuke, probably incomplete 8 out of 10 tries).

Tomorrow night I'll be pulling for my Tigers as hard as anyone. Win or lose I'll be proud of Clemson and the players who choose to play for us but I'll still be looking for that "it".

My only suggestion would be to get another hobby.***

Living in Charleston a boat sure seems to be a good right now and may be less expensive.

What's missing? Why did we not even compete with FSU?***

Poor throw by Boyd?

Jan 2, 2014, 8:02 PM

That was probably his best throw of that game. He threw it perfectly "it looked like it had a parachute attached to it". Did we get lucky with the 4 and 16? Yes. Did we catch a break with Miles play calling at the end? Yes. But how many times did auburn get lucky this year? Look at where they are at now. Even in 2010 they could of lost to us and SC that year but caught a bunch of breaks (penalty on game winning FG, Parker missing a wife open WR in the end zone for the winning score)

number of games I have, as well as the number of ups and downs with our program.

So, this is how one older Tiger thinks:

When I see our team standing proudly atop the Hill ready for that magnificent rundown to the blaring sounds of "Tiger Rag" from Tiger Band, I sense the "it."

When I see over 80,000 rabid, orange-bleeding diehard, loyal fans standing, jumping, swaying, yelling and cheering on The Tigers, I sense the "it."

When I watched our men march into the Georgia Dome and to the shock and amazement of the entire nation, take on the mighty LSU Tigers and emerge victorious, I sensed the "it."

When I watched Gameday visit Tiger Town not once but twice in a season and watched thousands of orange-clad Clemson students and fans wildly celebrating our Tigers, I sensed the "it."

When I see Clemson being invited to prestigious bowl games and see thousands of loyal fans travelling in support, I sense the "it."

When I watch a young coach, thrust into a challenging role, striving mightily while dedicating himself to my Alma Mater and at the same time winning immense loyalty from his staff and team and countless alumni and fans, I sense the "it."

And now, before a captivated nation, I will again watch our men do battle with one of the most storied programs in the nation, and I will sense the "it."

We may stagger, reel and fall at times; we may not yet be among the elite, but we have every right to be d@mn proud of our men, our staff and our family...to stand tall, cheer loudly...and collectively...sense the "it."
