If you’ve watched the first few series of the All American Bowl

Jan 8, 2022, 1:49 PM

I think you’ll agree that DJ doesn’t have many starts left at Clemson.

Only thing that keeps DJ in front of Cade is if Cade can’t learn the playbook quick enough. He’s already made two or three throws that DJ is incapable of. He’s much more mobile. And he makes quicker decisions. I know it’s hard comparing high school ball to college, but he looks better in every aspect than DJ did this season.

I think they will both get a lot of PT. I bet they think Cade needs to get stronger.

Probably so. Being an early enrollee helps Cade too. I bet he puts on 15-20 lbs before next season. College workouts and nutrition can put it on quick. Trevor packed on some good weight pretty quickly his freshman year.

Every kid is different. If his body and genes allow it, he will definitely have the opportunity.

DJ is big and strong.

And they didn’t let him throw it more than 10 yards down the field against Iowa State. He’s also slow both processing the game and running with no quickness or agility.

Cade is a better athlete and better QB.

Well, let’s be kind to DJ who’s put his life & career into Clemson FB..

Jan 8, 2022, 2:02 PM [ in reply to Re: If you’ve watched the first few series of the All American Bowl ]

and his 1st year and 2 starts were prolific. Something changed for him and it could be from Georgia D overwhelming him & his confidence, trying to compensate, his parents separating, taking on sponsors paying him $ and maybe got too confident, not getting to know or working with his WRers enough in Spring/Summer, bad Oline, unreal number of drops by WRers, listening to & being affected by outside criticism, lost respect of teammates (and coaches), too hard on himself, etc.

Saying..he hung in there, improved some, is staying, didn’t hit the portal, etc.

Excellent points. Tons of potential moving parts there as you point out. Definitely enough variables for DJ to reinvent himself by next fall.

Well thought out response LBB. I'm pulling for DJ to improve

and shut down all the naysayers.

I don't anyone WANTS him to fail...

Jan 8, 2022, 2:37 PM

and if they do they aren't a Tiger in my eyes. At the same time, I don't think anyone can be faulted for not thinking he played well this year.

I think we all (me included) need to remember that he's a Tiger above all else. I don't think he's the solution going forward but I really hope I am wrong.

Best thing Clemson can hope for is DJ to get his confidence back and play as he did in the two games last year. That way Cade can have multiple drives a game to get comfortable and get valuable reps while not putting it all on him to soon. In this scenario we still have two qbs who can win games and keeps Cade from getting banged up early.

Way too early. Cade has never played against guys who will be mostly

3-5 years older than him and collectively way bigger faster and stronger.

Good comment but I don't agree with him not learning the playbook quickly. You don't get to be Number 1 in 6A Division 2 in Texas football and win the state championship by being a slow study. He'll be just fine.

Too early to tell. He’s a gunslinger for sure. The speed at the collegiate level will catch up to him. A lot of passes he made today would be INT or break ups in college. Hopefully he will learn that in the spring and fall camps. Protecting the ball is the one stat that always means something. Like what I see so far though.

Need him to start enough games to let Cade bulk up and get up to speed with what our system should look like.

The defense in these all star games is atrocious, all they do is rush everyone and leave guys open. Cade is doing a good job feeling the pressure in the pocket and is really quick. That said, let’s see him in the spring game with some what real schemes and 20-22 year old men with NFL speed and size chasing him. All I have to say is remember how good DJ looked in these games and in the supposedly toughest league in the country in Cali. He didn’t move like Cade but he could make “all the throws”, we shall see.
