So aerozeptallica Has changed my ways and I’m cleaning my feeder every few days now.
Got a real a-hole male bird this year tho…..sits in a nearby tree or perches on the wire rail next to the feeder and dive bombs any bird that approaches. Interesting to watch but it was more fun watching 2 or 3 of them feeding at once from the same feeder.

I was out in the garden one evening, and the little guy just hovered about 2 feet in front of my face for about 30 seconds. I thought about grabbing my phone, but I knew as soon as I moved he/she would jet. That's about as close as I've been to one. It was one of those pretty cool nature experiences.

If you had two feeders, I wonder if he would be as territorial over the second feeder.

i've seen a bunch in the backyard this summer, and also a few huge red shouldered hawks. They take care of the local chipmunks and squirrels.

The females are anti-social as the Lunge inmates. The male tends to sneak around to the open one so he's not harassed...and, frankly, he's decided to not to take their chit anymore. He turns the tables on them often as not.
Yeah, those females...you hear them griping before you see them...and the dogfights commence.

them, so go more for bluebirds. Been successful there, and have been surprised to see that they can be aggressively territorial too. Not nearly as bad as hummingbirds, though.

Put out some live mealworms in a tray-feeder. I usually would crush dead leaves over them so the birds were actually 'hunting'...they'd see the leaves move and pounce. Works well for teaching the young 'uns.
If you do, you'll find they're watching you constantly...even talking to you...waiting for more worms. We had a large window at our breakfast nook...they took to tapping on the window...'Hey! You! Yeah, you! Wifey and kids are hungry!' The male would usually sit in a tree close by watching me fill the tray and as soon as I stepped away, he went to it...and the clan followed!
Nature can be neat like that!
