I've seen him live tons, and he never fails to put on a great show. So, the apocryphal story for the picture above is that is the hazy photo is due to the pot smoke constantly swirling around his head, but the truth is I had just dropped my phone in an open beer as I was sitting outside of the theater waiting in line. He came around the corner and took time to talk to folks and introduced us to his dog. I told him his song "Missing You" helped me dredge through some dark days after the passing of my dad, and he genuinely just listened and smiled and said thanks and asked all about my dad.

Great dude, and a great songwriter.

BTW, if you're a fan of Todd, Tom Jones (of all people) did a pretty cool cover of one of this tunes...

saw Todd Snider at the Exit/In in Nashville one time

about midway through the show, he does a cover of Buffett's "Wonder Why We Ever Go Home".


Next thing you know, Jimmy Buffett himself climbs up on stage out of the crowd to join in on the chorus. They are good friends apparently.

Probably ranks in the "Top 10 coolest things I ever saw at a concert" list.

Yeah, Todd was on Maragaritaville records for a while

I like pretty much all his albums, but the first 2 (which were on Margaritaville) had some production that didn't really fit with Todd's songwriting. There are some excellent songs there, but it wasn't really until he moved on to some alt-folk indie labels that he really started to shine on record.
