The transfer portal isnt new. Been around for decades. It hasn't changed much over the last 10 years.



The biggest change was keeping eligibility after 5 games.

Can go to any school. Coaches cant stop you any more.

They call it transfer portal now and put it online to make it easier.


KIDS have changed. They are more willing to transfer now.. even if having to sit out a year.

Whether a man has to sit out a year or not when transferring is a huge part. It’s exactly why you see so many in the portal now. So it has changed or else the #’s would match what you claim.

G'ville Tiger's claim: More people are in the transfer portal because this generation are not willing to stick with a team, battling adversity.

Your claim: More people are in the transfer portal because now they can transfer without any penalties.

Both of your claims offer reasons for the increased number of transfers.

I think you're both correct. I would also suggest that social media has played a role as well by giving athletes a vastly enlarged group of 'friends' that can influence them. NIL legislation will only increase the transfer portal volume. FSU is a step ahead of the game with their announcement today of the Apex NIL program. How long do you think it'll be before representatives from various schools are sending private messages to athletes at other schools informing them that they've got a NIL contract with Bob's Used Cars down the street from campus for $50K and boy howdy they think you'd be a perfect promoter for Bob's fine automobiles?

U have your degree and transfer as a graduate student
Go to a lower division school
Get special permission


A lot of special permissions are being granted now due to covid.. ..but the rule hasn't changed.
