We gave up:
3 points to #1 UGA
8 points to GT
14 points to NC St
13 points to BC
Our defense did this while the offense went 3 and out the majority of series. If we were barely winning games 38-34, then you'd be singing a different tune.
The defense has been absolutely elite given how awful the offense is. Arguably the best defense in the nation so far. Now, with injuries, projecting forward, the defense may take a hit. But to this point, we are absolutely a top 25 team due to the performance of the defense alone.
But, nobody looks at top 25 rankings except for girls and 12 year olds. Even 12 year olds understand how pointless rankings are. I'd say 8 year olds probably care. Rankings do not matter in OCT. They barely even matter in November. It's pointless to argue. The bottom line is that we are not a playoff team this year.

If we were beating GT 38-34, I'd have the exact same problem, but would be angry at Venables. All your post proves is we have a top defense (I don't think our current defense is better than UGA's). Football has three parts: offense, defense, and special teams. We have a top 5 defense and a bottom 5 offense. What does that average out to man?

Polls are a media scheme. That's the bottom line. 12-year-olds might understand that, but there sure are a lot of 6-foot, 200-pound dudes with beards and potbellies who don't.

I expected Clemson's offense to figure things out in the 2nd half of that game...but it was more of the same. Clemson's offense looked like pure sludge and looked like they did not know what they were doing. All was so surprising and disappointing...because Clemson's offense had ALL offseason to be ready......and they weren't.
I just didn't recognize this group offensively at all. There was no fire....no passion...no desire..and no want to. I've never seen a team like that unless we were just losing 55-0. We were still in that game to win it thanks to our defense but on offense from the coaching to the players...our souls were either taken or lost.
Then came Georgia Tech at home. Again our offensive souls were missing. Should have won that one by 21....according what was reported to us by the coaches all offseason long.
I had my concerns against NC State but I thought we would pull it out by 10.....but we lost in a game that went longer than it should.
Boston College was going to be our next physical experience. There wasn't much fire or consistent explosiveness but there was definitely some ground and pound. Because of the ground and pound that game was closer than the experts thought ...but Clemson won. And they threw Clemson out of polls and rankings that they were hanging by a claw to.
Its how Clemson responds from here on out.....the rest of the ACC is looking to creep in and surround Clemson to fully go in for the kill.....especially that Panther up North....and definitely especially that dude with the spear way down South.

Agreed. It’s our season to win or lose. Hopefully the offense gets on track. A long break to try and sort it out. No excuses.

That’s like saying “the front end of my Maserati may have been crushed by a semi, but the rear quarter panels still look brand new.” Really? You’re saying half a team deserves to be top 25? The Maserati still isn’t what I paid for and can’t run with the other elite cars. And neither can this year’s team. Good thing is, both can be repaired. It Stinks but suck it up, and stop saying stupid things like this. Makes you look ignorant and petty.

OK, then I’m in idiot. I would not put Clemson in the top 25. We have two power five wins at HOME over two mediocre teams. Games that went to the buzzer bro!
Beat Syracuse and Pitt and then I would say we deserve to be in the top 25

The fact that we fell out of the top 25 isn't shocking at all though. Its not unfair. There are a lot of teams that are ranked higher or lower than their ability.

#25 seems just about right to me for now.
All 4 of our games have been super close (leaving out SC State).
Eliteness of the defense means something.
Our special teams are good too.
Factor in the injuries (like the CFP is supposed to do), and we're probably a little better than 25.
There certainly are teams in the top 25 with no defense. We just happen to be the one that has the opposite problem.
I tend to think that if we win Friday, we'll be squarely back in the other poll. Not a fan of playing on Friday nights too often, but the benefit is that your game gets seen and doesn't get lost in the shuffle. Most media types and coaches will check in on that one Friday, give a look to see if we put some more points up this week and if we do, they'll move us back up a few.
If Pitt wins Saturday at VT and gets a solid ranking, then that game the following week is a top 25 clash, with the winner likely making a significant move as others fall.
