Our big boosters need to be reaching out to the top players in the country at each of our weakest positions (OL, yes I’m talking about you) and negotiating NIL deals so the players will enter the portal.
I’m assuming the athletic department is on top of this. If they aren’t already they will now after reading this.

It’s kind of like paying taxes. My not declaring cash that I got paid is like the McDonalds bag of cash. I’ll never get caught but if I did, I’d be in trouble. NIL is like having high powered tax attorneys that get you out of paying taxes legally.
Clemson is high powered tax attorney rich now. We need to start using NIL to our advantage. All-Americans should be as excited to transfer to Clemson as I am for two-for-one lap dances.

All of the big boys except for Clemson have gotten better using the portal. Money talks. If Pearman can’t get it done, the boosters need to step in.

When I used to work, my boss probably only knew what I was doing 15% of the time. Pearman needs to take the initiative and go reel in a couple first round guards and tackles with the help of some of our boosters if he needs it. What’s Dabo going to say when those guys show up on campus?
Heck, I bet he’ll end up getting a raise. I had a buddy that used to get scared when we would blow off work to go hunting. Not only did we not get fired, but we got raises after giving our boss 20 pounds of rib eyes from the cow we got when it wandered off it’s owners property.

He's on salary and apparently, does absolutely nothing with regard to the transfer portal. Good question for the BOT, in my opinion. We aren't getting any return on this investment.

meaning both the transfer rule/portal and NIL. I dont see Dabo taking transfers any time soon but I can see him making an exception for a kid that they were close with in recruiting and would really help the team...just a truly unique situation.
On a side note, I dont think Kiffin is a clown any longer. He has grown up and handles himself in a much better way than in the past. He is a heckuva coach and just shoots straight to the media.

The transfer portal will, eventually, force Clemson and its coaches and its fans to make a crucial decision:
1. Is our program culture more important than winning at all costs, or
2. Is winning at all costs part of our culture?
I think I know which one Dabo will choose. And I already know which one the entire SEC has chosen.

I beg to differ. Right now, the transfer portal works only AGAINST Clemson---we only have outbound scholarship athletes.
Zero incoming athletes.
Right now, if my numbers are right, we have about 11 open scholarships (if I count Dixon). that's not good.
Roster management and transfer portal go hand in hand. We're not managing it properly, IMO.
And no I'm not a fan of the transfer portal. But that's the environment we operate in.

He did not like it. K is as traditional as Dabo, probably even more so with regard to culture, respect for authority, etc. But K adapted. Dabo must do the same.
Here's the thing - with NIL, the portal, and gambling, college is now officially the NFL minor leagues. Bama has been that for years, but now it is everyone, IF they want to stay relevant in big time college football.
Otherwise, we will be going back to the days of just going to enjoy the tailgate and the weather and hope the Tigers can somehow get a win.

Win at all costs means cheating, coloring outside the lines, doing whatever it takes. The transfer portal is part of the game now. A huge part of the game.
A few players a year is not going to ruin our culture. If it does then that culture wasn’t Worth anything to begin with.
I’ll tell you what will destroy your program and your culture, not winning and not being competitive. And that is the future if we don’t use the portal.

If the coaching staff knows the player and really wanted them - I could see them accepting them after the fact.
I wish this were the case now! I feel like one day it will be like it or not.

My take is Dabo will find a way to justify personally & publicly why his approach to taking “select” transfers is ethical and right for Clemson.

Whatever happened to dance and leave with the one that "brung you" or the one you "brung"? That works both ways.
I haven't agreed with the transfer portal since it began. Call me old fashioned but when you give your word to play and sign the letter, you're all in. I would not let my kids quit a sport they signed up for. After the season, if they didn't like it, they didn't have to participate again but they were taught to finish what they start. Also, the same works for the university to not bring in a transfer to replace someone that has been committed.
If you lose a little something, so be it. I hope Dabo sticks to his guns on this one. If more coaches were like him, the portal would get so full, it would eventually be a non-factor.
Just for equal opportunity sake, can some transfer portal guru provide a list of graduates in the portal that could help Clemson? If you dont look at just graduates, then you're looking at the majority that have quit because of their egos and if they quit once, they'll quit on their new team when the going gets tough.

It doesn’t matter whether we like it or not. It is the reality of the game now. Stubbornly sticking to your guns is how you end up running the program into the ground.
Dabo is old fashion?
Have you seen our offense?
We have a modern offense. We are not 3 yards and a cloud of dust.
Dabo supports NIL.
Those two things alone show Dabo doesn’t live in the past and has evolved. This whole portal thing is just him being stubborn!

It's just my opinion (like you have your opinion) and until something happens with a transfer coming to Clemson that helps for 2 or 3 years, then I am where I am on the issue. As long as Dabo and the other coaches continue to recruit quality and character, Clemson will continue to be a "next man up" program and not need to get a "mercenary" to help for a year. Recruiting and development will sustain the Tigers over the long haul.

Is use the portal sparingly...I agree with Dabo that HS recruiting is the WAY. But....more importantly, we need to sign more kids. Too often we don't hit numbers, are short of 85 and are left taking reaches at the OL spots. That should never happen for a program like Clemson.
Got to adapt, that's what make CNS so good.

OK, we are portal Guru's, who do we try to bring in? Who in the portal is better than what we already have? They are in the portal because they can't start where they are at... if they don't like where they are do we want them here? If Lyn J was on Georgia and showed up in the portal should we go get him here?
Is Bama's 3d string tackle better than our starting tackle?
Got put some common sense into this as well, get them if they can upgrade the roster and fit in.

I've tried preaching this since the transfer portal became a reality. Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State are using the portal to pick up instant impact starters with NFL futures. All 3 of them recruit better than Clemson too. If the staff refuses to bring in transfers then we will fall further behind in talent. They will continue to out recruit us and they will continue bringing in transfers. I just don't see how that helps us.

The portal and the legalization of pay-for-transfers and pay-for-recruiting via NIL is going to make it hard for small market teams to stay on top. I foresee the California, Texas, and Northeast teams making a serious comeback, as they have access to far more cash to take advantage of this system. Even Bama is not going to be able to keep up.
