Nov 7, 2013, 11:21 PM

Who do you think we would play?

Not sure that would be good. Like FSU last year playing NIU.

Orange Bowl has first at large pick this year, so it isn't going to be Central Florida

LOL...Orange Bowl isn't taking UCF with the first pick***

The at large picks could be
Clemson, UCF, Fresno St and Oregon.

Would the Orange Bowl take Oregon and pass over the local state team. UCF would help Clemson fill the place. Or does the OB hope that Oregon will travel 3000 miles to fill 18K plus seats on a Friday after the disappointment of no BCS or Rose Bowl game

My bad UCF would be auto with the AAC champ

Yea, but Clemson/Oregon would make for some good TV!***

I wouldn't want another WV Orange Bowl experience. I'll take UCF. Would love to see us win a BCS. Not saying we can't beat O but after FSU this year, I'd be worried.

Doubtful

Nov 7, 2013, 11:31 PM [ in reply to Re: If we go to the Orange Bowl... ]

If I'm reading the selection process right.

We only play in the Orange Bowl if FSU goes to championship game.

The order for selection starts with the bowl(s) that lose their contracted teams to the championship game. If Bama and FSU win out, then it would mean Bama is #1 and FSU #2.

Thus Sugar would get first pick from the available teams, and then Orange would get second pick from available teams.

THEN the normal selection order happens, which this year STARTS with the Orange bowl.

So the only way we get matched up with UCF is if you think the Orange bowl WANTS us versus UCF and will select the two teams with the second and third picks. I don't see that happening.

Re: Doubtful

So playing this out

SEC Bama
ACC FSU
B12 Baylor
B10 TheOSU
Pac Sanford
AAC UCF
At large
Clemson, Fresno, Oregon and the least bloodied SEC team

Bama and FSU goes to BCS
Rose tied to The OSU and Sanford
Sugar take less ugly SEC team (2 loss Auburn, TAM or MIZZ)
Orange takes Clemson
Back to Orange to choose from Oregon, Fresno or UCF

And the question becomes doe Orange take a disappointed Oregon team to travel 3000 miles with no Rose or BCS game. OR doe they take (read PRESSURED) to take the Florida team who can sell alot of empty seats in the Miami Dolphin stadium ?????

Orange take Clemson UCF
Sugar take Oregon against say TAM
Fiesta has Baylor and Fresno

Don't think they take UCF

Nov 7, 2013, 11:46 PM

I believe they take the biggest brand available. WHile attendance is big, the perception of the bowl is even bigger. They'd take a bigger name

Re: Don't think they take UCF

Nov 7, 2013, 11:49 PM

You might be right Thom.

They could really sell a good QB match up between 2 QB finishing in the Top 5 or so in the Heisman.

I just wonder if the political pressure in Florida to take UCF would be great. Plus the OB has had alot of empty stadiums in recent years.

Of course there is still alot of football to be played and Clemson will have a major challenge in SC at months end.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed

Nov 7, 2013, 11:54 PM

I just don't see attendance as being nearly as big a deal to the folks picking the game as the reputation and TV draw.

I'm sure there will be pressure to take UCF, and lord knows we'd have a much better chance against UCF than we would Oregon.

No way the Orange Bowl picks UCF.

The best and most appealing non-conference champ not in the NC

Nov 7, 2013, 11:36 PM

So maybe Oregon. If Michigan St beats Ohio State in the B1G championship, the maybe we'll see the buckeyes. If Bama loses the SEC championship we'll play Bama. Buckle up. We're likely in for a dog fight unless we wimp out again and give up and give way to a another team we should be outlasting.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Orange will take UCF

Nov 8, 2013, 12:52 AM

TV ratings do nothing for the local economy. They want hotels filled and restaurants packed. People will still watch the game. Besides that we should easily beat them. We don't need another bcs loss. Flame away now but I'm correct.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the orlando(ucf)fans will take a hotel room for 1 night,out-

Nov 8, 2013, 3:32 AM

of-state/region fans will make a vacation out of it. which would help the local economy more? the corporations gobble up the majority of tickets not sold by the individual schools, imo.
