If we go 10-3 this year

Nov 3, 2021, 3:57 PM

And win the Mayo Bowl but never look really good .
I mean win the games like we have every game so far.
My Question is , would you consider this a good coaching job ?

An ugly win is always better than a pretty loss...

Nov 3, 2021, 4:09 PM

There are areas where the team as a whole has shown improvement. Other areas...not so much.

I think coaching can be reasonably included in that assessment.

Nov 3, 2021, 4:37 PM

I would call it a phenomenal coaching job.
We obviously had major problems at the start of the season... add on all of the injuries, and we have been very short handed of both players and talent. If we can win 10 or 11 games (and possibly the ACC), it would be one of the better coached years I can remember at Clemson.

Well I would say it’s mostly we beat teams that we should beat but struggle to do so.
So that’s saying the other teams with way less talent are out coaching our staff. Every team we have played this year has had the ball with a chance to win

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you dont get fired, every year is a good coaching job

Coaches should be judged on resources and advantages (if any).

Nov 3, 2021, 7:20 PM

Our football coaches have a nearly ideal situation to help them succeed. Best facilities in the nation? Check. Salaries among the best in the nation? Check. Passionate fan support? Check. A history of success? Check.

To their credit, they have parlayed these advantages into great recruiting classes. By all indications, we were considered to be one of the most talented teams in college football and thus expected to contend for a national championship this year.

Instead, we aren’t even in the top 25 and have one of the worst offenses in college football. Moreover, very few adjustments or improvements have been made at this point in the season. No matter how you slice it, that doesn’t equate to very good coaching on the offensive side of the ball.

Given the above, only a huge homer would defend what we’ve seen this year as good coaching. This isn’t to say that we don’t have good coaches, because we do. But this has been a very poor coaching effort on offense IMO.

IMO that is one of the worst takes ever!
The job the staff has done this year with all of the challenges has been incredible!
If they lose the remaining games I still say it’s one of the best coaching jobs ever!!

Funny. I thought it was one of the best takes. Where is JK wrong?

Re: Coaches should be judged on resources and advantages (if any).

Nov 4, 2021, 11:38 AM

He is wrong!
If Tony Elliot calls a pass play and And DJ throws a perfect strike and Ross drops it, That a poor coaching job?
Perhaps if these coaches did not have a track record you might could say this has been coaching but they do have a record!
There have been many challenges this year and some are inexplicable but the coaches have done a great job!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What makes this one of the best coaching jobs?

Nov 3, 2021, 8:33 PM [ in reply to Re: Coaches should be judged on resources and advantages (if any). ]

Why is it so incredible in your opinion?

11 years and two tournament wins...

The reason? Everything but coaching.

You talk our both sides of your mouth. Comically transparent. Please stop.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Absolutely none of the things you mentioned wins football games

Nov 3, 2021, 8:40 PM [ in reply to Coaches should be judged on resources and advantages (if any). ]

We are the 2nd winningest team in the country since Dabo took over. And obviously the 2nd best playoff team.

You are so hilariously transparent. You blame coaching issues on things that have ZERO impact on coaching ability.

You are aware there have been coaches who have succeeded much more than Brad, well before they had all the benefits Brad currently has.

Nov 3, 2021, 8:48 PM [ in reply to Coaches should be judged on resources and advantages (if any). ]

Steve Spurrier did an interview two weeks ago and was asked in a round about way about Spencer Rattler and DJ Uiagalelei struggles.

He chose to reference some of his former QBs at Florida vs the two QBs that he was asked about by the host of the show and said...."Well" every now and then a QB can "go bad on you" and when that happens all you can do is bench him and sometimes they come back better and sometimes they don't but "umm" "well I tell ya" its bad when they go bad on you!

DJ went bad on Dabo and the conclusion of the season will tell if it was great coaching to stick with him or not.

Yes. Bowden had zero 10 win seasons

neither did west or hatfield

Hatfield was 10-2 in 1990. Also a couple of times before at Arkansas.

Probably won’t beat WF and if we get a decent SEC team in the bowl , that will be tough also.
BUT you never know we are getting a little healthy and by the bowl should be ready to go.
I think we beat Louisville and SC so 8-4 at worse.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

First thought answer to that is: It would be an INCREDIBLE

Nov 3, 2021, 6:03 PM

DEFENSIVE coaching job, and an incredibly BAD offensive coaching job.

Simply because, at some point, coaches must be held accountable for lack of execution on the field.

Either that, or we have recruited the first bunch of lads in history that are just not coachable.

Not incredible if they just do the obvious and replace the QB.

I agree 100%, even with DJ struggles the Coach’s should be able to figure something out vs teams like GT,BC,FSU and the Cuse. These teams are bad and have been bad for years.

Re: First thought answer to that is: It would be an INCREDIBLE

Did I miss something? Clemson beat all the teams you just listed! The coaches did figure something out! Wow!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: First thought answer to that is: It would be an INCREDIBLE

Nov 4, 2021, 12:43 PM

The D beat those teams , I’m talking about getting a O that can move the ball vs inferior teams .
Yeah we won but only because these teams are bad .
Still to this day the O has not improved a bit .
I can understand having a off year you can’t win the NC every year. My problem is we have probably the Worst O in the whole country.
That’s on Coaching.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just keeping this team engaged and interested in winning

after such a dramatic fall from grace would be a major coaching accomplishment.

What, when Tiger Time ( the fans media guide) had us undefeated #1 at the end of the season, I would have to say no.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: If we go 10-3 this year

Nov 4, 2021, 10:52 AM

Hatfield was handed a potential NC team and the only reason that he got ten wins is that the Maryland coach accepted a penalty when we would have been on forth down. Even Jim Phillips said as much on the radio. He FUBAR'ed the game at GT.
