Has NIL Exposed Coaches who were/are cheaters?

Oct 5, 2022, 8:13 AM

I'm not quite sure how to word this so be kind...

Take a person like Jimbo Fisher. I think most agree he's got a reputation on bending the rules and looking the other way and some would suggest players got paid well under his tenure.

Was his success because he is so good or because he "acquired" players that were so good that he couldn't help but be successful until the talent started going elsewhere.

Here's where I'm going with this: I feel that a large amount of schools lose a lot of talent to the Jimbo Fishers of the world because certain advantages he creates if you get my meaning. Now that every school can essentially pay players though NIL, is it safe to say a guy like Jimbo can't stack the talent deck to his advantage?

Has coaches like Jimbo, who has to rely on being a better coach and I think it's safe to say that he's getting exposed pretty badly and money can't buy a great team. It can buy talent but someone has to coach them.

This gives great credit to a Coach like Dabo who makes Clemson such a special place to play and it also shows has very good of a coach he is.

Just a thought

TA&M had their best recruiting class ever last year due to

NIL so I don't think he's losing talent, he's actually gotten more. I also think NIL will hamper a team environment with some players getting big checks and some players getting nothing. I also agree that Jimbo is not a high character coach and I am enjoying watching him lose games even more this year! Go Tigers!

Good Point but consider this....

While he's had solid recruiting classes, Other schools in the that haven't always been at the top of the food chain and certainly don't have the insane Texas Money can now get talented enough players where a good coach can compete against a team of "superstars" If the coach isn't as good as reputed to be.

If you look as just recruiting, Texas A&M should have handled Miss St...but the Cowbells have a really good coach has enough talent to blow Jimbo up which he did.

Jimbo's talent is all freshman tho.. he'll be on top

probably in a couple of years.

If true, how's that working out for Jimbo?

Oct 5, 2022, 8:22 AM

Sure, you can't teach talent, but you have to be able to manage it.

NIL does create advantages for schools, but you still need to be able to coach and develop well.

I think in Jimbo's case, it's the quality of the player...

Meaning character. We saw this when he had Jameis. Yes, they won with Jameis, but I remember in a game that we were playing them and Jameis threw an interception or something and Jimbo started chewing and Jameis essentially bowed up to him, cussed him, and backed Jimbo down. After Jameis, FSU was left with a lot of very talented players that had no fight and no character and the place fell apart.

I expect the same thing to happen to A&M. A world of talent...but the players reflect their coach.

I don’t like saying it but Jimbo is

Oct 5, 2022, 8:44 AM

A good coach, probably a dirty coach, doesn’t care about character just wants the best talent whatever it takes.

Jimbo was a proven coach at FSU, never with the class Bobby Bowden had though. He is one of the top QB coaches and would be best served in that role.

Texas A&M will be a force to be reckoned with when the players they bought & recruited the last two years are developed. They should contend for a title in the next two years. It takes time to develop a team.

That’s why they are so bad this season, they need development.

You just described the characteristics of a Bad Coach.

Dabo delivers on what he is selling

Oct 5, 2022, 12:24 PM

That is why he consistently gets quality players who are also solid people.

Yes, he loses some to the portal. Everybody wants playing time and NIL $, and the grass always looks greener.

Dabo sells culture, and family, and the winning is a by-product. Only Saban, Day, and Kirby can sell championships and consistently deliver.

I know a number of fans and media members think that Dabo is foolishly stubborn about stressing character and only occasionally using the portal, but his approach is working, and just look how many are modeling their programs after him, or at least using his buzzwords. Fisher is a total snake oil salesman, riding his financial advantages and making promises he can’t deliver on. The emporer has no clothes. As soon as players recognize, they quit. They may still put on the uniform and take the field, but they quit.

I will take our culture and our coach a million times over any of the fast talking, flashy shadow lurkers.
