If this ACC pac deal goes through,

Jul 6, 2022, 11:04 PM

It is a terrible outcome. And to say that it can be done by letting them have part of the ACC Network and not reopen the GOR, speaks volumes about our president and athletic director. They are truly in over their heads. This will not be enough money to make a difference and worse than that, if the Big and SEC decide to treat us like group of five regarding playoff and just publicity, we will never be able to recruit on the level needed.

How the administrations at UNC, Clemson, FSU, Miami, UVA, Virginia Tech get suckered into this patchwork junk again is beyond me. And we will all continue to bend over and let Notre Dame put it to us. After the fiasco of the "alliance", which I know is completely different from this, it would seem like Phillips wouldn't want to be anywhere near the word Pac10, or 8, or 6, or whatever it will be when we get loosey goosey together. I understand this is different from the alliance, because anything that ever existed, or will exist, ss the big bang after effects continues to spread in each direction, is different from the pathetic alliance.

Thats not a fact, at all.

Jul 7, 2022, 3:19 PM [ in reply to fact is clemson being relevant is in trouble*** ]

Yet again, if the B1G and SEC make push for huge superconferences, then they will need to further expand. If they do that, then Clemson and Notre Dame are the two most coveted programs in the country. ND would go to the B1G, or stubbornly try to make it as an independent, and we would join the SEC.

If the B1G and SEC remain at 16 teams, then ACC will add two more, and whatever is left can form a conference of whatever is left over from the PAC-12 and BIG 12.

Either way, Clemson is the number 2 team of the CFP era and a top 15 program of all-time. We are not in trouble.

Please step off the ledge and realize there are people working on this.

LOL, ACC athletic directors want

Jul 7, 2022, 12:23 AM

More specificity. No, you don't say. They actually want more details than they had for the embarrassing alliance?

Clemson needs to GTFO of the ACC or

Jul 7, 2022, 7:22 AM

Clemson’s Prez, AD and BOT need to GTFO of Clemson.

We played the ACC card to it’s end _ no sense going down with a sinking ship.

Just exhausted of loyalty to a conference that treats Clemson like red headed step brother.

It sounds to me just like cutting one pizza into eight

Jul 7, 2022, 7:45 AM

slices, and thinking you have more pizza now than you started with. The way ESPN is bleeding money, I can't see them investing in what they HAVE to see as a doomed venture.

Have you seen any statements from Ness, Clements,or the BOT

Jul 7, 2022, 7:53 AM

advocating a preference to stay in the ACC? I haven't. Ness had two choices for the new baseball coach. He landed one of them. I would bet the farm he has a plan for basketball depending on this year. Clements is the only school president that many of our football recruits have ever met on an official visit. The BOT is not the same BOT we had during the past expansion. And, THE PAW is so much larger than it was last time, that all those in charge have a big stick to weild while sorting things out.

I have faith in Ness and co.

Re: Have you seen any statements from Ness, Clements,or the BOT

Jul 7, 2022, 8:30 AM

Yeah, our Prez and current BOT make-up seem All-In on embracing football as a prime component and driver of the Clemson experience, unlike we have seen in prior decades. Neff strikes me as a cool customer on top of that - no way he takes the reigns over this enterprise unless there is a strong faith from those same people around him. I don't get the impression either that Neff is a guy that's been sitting idly by while the landscape changes around him. I suspect he's been putting in his due diligence on the conference and media end alongside other duties so that we can best respond as events further unfold.

I feel like we're in as good a hands as we've been in a long, long time.

Go Tigers.

Clemson leadership knows what to do ..

Jul 7, 2022, 1:02 PM [ in reply to Have you seen any statements from Ness, Clements,or the BOT ]

It is just a matter of crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s now. Hang tight and wait for the announcement. It may not even happen this year either. If ND, B1G and SEC sit tight and don’t make any other moves this year, then things could just simmer for a while. But the writing is on the wall.

Take a deep breath buddy.

Jul 7, 2022, 8:36 AM

Nothing has been done yet and you have no clue what the actual stance of our administration is right now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep… the Clemson admin and BOT are pro-football folks…

Jul 7, 2022, 1:09 PM

They won’t sit idly by and let the ACC drag them into the mire. Just hang tight. Everything is gonna be alright. ??

Re: If this ACC pac deal goes through,

Jul 7, 2022, 8:51 AM

The ACC need to keep the GoR intact to prevent the teams from leaving. If they add in PAC12 teams or any teams they will want to keep the GoR to keep the conference from splintering.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The ACC is splintered now… a zombie conference now***

Re: If this ACC pac deal goes through,

Jul 7, 2022, 9:52 AM

Oregon isn't going to stay in the Pac 10, they will probably end up in the Big 10, none of the other teams are good in football year in and year out, it makes no sense to join with them.

Stanford and Cal are juggernauts academically and have

Jul 7, 2022, 1:17 PM

The potential to be good in football again. They have deep pockets and share both the academic and athletic values consistent with the B1G. Washington too. Even more so than Oregon.

I’m not saying Oregon won’t go to the B1G, but do not be surprised if you see Stanford and Cal and Washington in the mix too.

Then you add ND, UVA, UNC, Clemson and Miami(or FSU) into the mix and you have a crazy good cross-section of the country covered. Not sure what may happen with GTech.

This is great drama to speculate on.

Re: If this ACC pac deal goes through,

Jul 7, 2022, 2:46 PM

The teams that get left out of the P2 will want to stay as close to relevant as possible so that they are more attractive in a future round (it won't stop here... it never does).

Anything that can generate more revenue is a plus in the meantime.

You guys will be fine. I'm really worried about where VT will be in all this though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nice to see a voice of reason.

Jul 7, 2022, 3:26 PM

I would hate to see VT be relegated to 2nd tier, but I cant see that happening, because I don't think the highly speculative two conference rumor will come to fruition.

VT, even with the more recent trends, remains one the top 20 winningest football programs of all-time. Great school, great fanbase, and attractive market value.
