and 3rd stringers in half the snaps of 1st & 2nd quarters so as to allow your starters more fresh at the end of the game since Clemson can score so quickly.Football is more of a long distant run than a sprint.Seems to me this would bring more balance to a defense that needs to be a long distance runner, not a sprinter who runs out of gas at the end.

Too big of a drop off-no depth.***

That's the problem - we don't have the depth.....

Sep 27, 2012, 8:46 AM

to rest the defensive starters in the 1st half - if we do, we run the risk of getting too far behind - you're talking about a "robbing Peter to pay Paul" type of thing - it won't work.

BV admitted he didn't rotate fresh back ups like he should have.

How many offensive snaps did FSU have?

Sep 27, 2012, 9:32 AM

I know Coach Morris is big on increasing the number of offensives snaps, I was wondering how our opponents snap count compared.

Given that they are slap worn out in the third and forth quarters, at some point in time their drop off would equate to a second string player that is fresh. If rested some in the first half reguardless of the talent level of the no 2 guy, you still have a chance in the third quarter. Subbing one or two guys at a time gives the new guy some much needed game experience, it guys the 1s some rest, it develops the 2nd guy faster knowing he is going to play some, you may realize the 2s can play also, and it gives the 2s some experience in case the 1 goes down.

I highly doubt that Clemson faces a team like FSU

Sep 27, 2012, 9:44 AM

in the upcoming games. I think backups will get plently of looks as long as the starters execute the way they are capable. Glad we played Auburn and FSU early to test the team to set the bar for the rest of the season.

I was thinking on the same lines about playing Auburn and Florida State's offense in that being a challenge, but after Ball State and Furman moved the ball successfully against our defense, I have serious doubts about our ability to stop anybody.

Here's a thought then......start the 2nd and 3rd's ....

Sep 27, 2012, 9:53 AM

They get the 1st and 4th quarters..... prove what they got, then clean up duty as well.

Not as standard practice, but against a few of the next handfull of games.

Its a good idea, at least if we have to outscore teams your starting D-line isn't gassed out. What Id do is start them most the snaps in the first half, then the starters in the second half with a rotation as needed.
