TNET: Tim Tebow joins Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne in Jacksonville

Tim Tebow joins Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne in Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be a must-watch team to follow in 2021. Former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence will have a new teammate and weapon to his disposal with Tim Tebow. Tebow has signed a one-year deal with the team announced on Thursday and will wear jersey No. 85. "I want to thank the Read Update »

Hope he stays clear of the QB room so as to not interfer with Trevor as he begins building rapport with teammates.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why?

May 20, 2021, 10:09 AM

I get the criticisms of Tebow as a player, but interfering with Trevor, what does that mean?

Ex., if Tebow himself is one of those teammates (not to mention one who sincerely & closely shares Trevor's own leadership & moral predispositions), why would Trevor want to build a rapport with everyone but one of his teammates?

Tim Tebow isn't trying to sabotage Jacksonville's quarterback, I promise.

Urban supposedly moved into a house two doors down from Tebow. Those two are friends and I believe that Tebow will be a part of the Jacksonville program either on the field or in the office during the Meyer years. Tim and his wife will be an asset as mentors to Trevor and Marissa. The Lawrence’s could not have landed in a better situation than what they have in Jacksonville. I don’t like pro ball but I will definitely be following the Jaguars.

I totally agree with you. It will not hurt Trevor to be around Tim Tebow and I think Mr. Tebow will be good for the locker room.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one that is happy for this situation, particularly because of how rare good things like this seem to be in the league. Thank you for that!

Urban knows what he has with Tebow, and it is not an NFL QB.
He's been playing baseball for the last several years, no injuries, crafty runner. He will get some end around handoff's, shovel passes, swing passes, maybe the occasional throwback pass.

Expect him to line up at TE, Slot, in the Backfield for whatever they need to get a mismatch (somewhere) with the defense. They did not sign him to be a 'blocking TE' or a QB. They already have a room full of QB's that will get cut back. Tebow will probably end up as a 4th option at QB for wildcat. They will figure out how to get the ball to him as a TE to get 1st downs and touchdowns....
He is a local football hero in Jacksonville, and his PR will help with changing the poor attitude/image the Jag's team has in Jacksonville.

This move seems highly suspect. He obviously cannot play QB. Is it reasonable to expect him to do the "down and dirty" blocking work of a tight end. Can he even catch the ball in a live game situation? How fast/slow is he these days?

That is a question for his coaches and team mates, they will be the ones that will have those answers, but I will assure you that somebody seen something in Tebow that they liked during his workout trying to land a TE spot on the Jag team....

Tebow is about to get a rude awakening...

May 20, 2021, 10:26 AM

...well, he won't realize that it is a rude awakening until he wakes up after going up the seam or going across the middle... SOMEBODY is going to try to make the roster at his expense on a highlight hit... LOL

Re: Tebow is about to get a rude awakening...

May 20, 2021, 10:33 AM

You're suggesting Tim Tebow can't take a hit? Have you seen him? Dude's huge, but he's taken tons of hits? I guess I just don't understand the suggestion that Tebow isn't physical enough to play anything in the sport, even if he isn't straight up elite enough at the QB position to define it like Trevor might be able to, know what I mean?

Re: Tebow is about to get a rude awakening...

Tebow haters, and I'm not so sure that they would hate so much if Tebow hadn't been close friend with his X Gator HC, Urkel Myer!!! ;)

Re: Tebow is about to get a rude awakening...

May 20, 2021, 12:23 PM

I hear you, but I have a feeling many of us are going to end up loving Coach Meyer outright.

Fingers crossed, but at least his PLAN to create something unique to the league seems to be taking shape, & I'm excited for it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Meyer is not doing anything unique...

May 22, 2021, 11:08 AM

QBs to other positions are not new. Woody Dantzler and Dan Reeves decades before Woody went from QB to running back. Josh Cribbs, Julian Edelman and Eric Crouch all went from QB to WR in the NFL... looks like undue praise is being heaped on Meyer and Tebow... see how that works?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not what I meant

May 22, 2021, 12:40 PM

To be clear, I didn't mean Meyer moving Tebow from QB to TE is the unique part.

Instead, taking the guys he wants however he can get them & putting them together, guys who are unique in how they approach the game, discipline, & frankly even the Bible. It definitely feels unique enough to keep an eye on who else Meyer targets to add to his team in the coming seasons, I think. Hope this helps.

I hate no man, a man has nothing that I want or need...

May 22, 2021, 10:59 AM [ in reply to Re: Tebow is about to get a rude awakening... ]

Tebow is taking a chance that he is entitled to take being that he is being given that chance... Meyer now being TLaw's HC makes no difference to me, how Meyer goes about his life is his choice, i'm just an outside observer with really no opinions about him or his ways...

Reading is fundamental, but comprehension is necessary...

May 22, 2021, 10:55 AM [ in reply to Re: Tebow is about to get a rude awakening... ]

where did I state that he can't take a hit? getting laid out has absolutely nothing to do with being able to take a hit because there are some hits that NOBODY can take.
Since you need the summary; look for an undrafted free agent rookie or free agent signee that's bouncing around the league to try to make the roster by going after Tebow when he is exposed trying to make a catch...
And it is going to be a rude awakening for Tebow that a player/teammate will take that shot...
why are you so quickly triggered?? training camp is all business because guys are trying to get or keep jobs, they don't really become teammates until the 53 man roster is finalized...
Any suggestion that you THOUGHT I was making is purely your issue, please seek therapy...

WHOA.

I think you're taking my simple question far too personally.

I asked so you could clarify in response to your original comment, which you did, and I thank you for that but to be fair I don't think I'm the one who was "so quickly triggered," know what I mean?

Seek therapy? I get that you're trying to be deliberately insulting, but again, there's just no need for that stuff at all.

I asked in response to your comment, and it was a sincere question, nothing more, not an insinuation or anything, and I offered my take into what I thought you meant; I never said you were wrong, called you names or taunted you with insults, so if it was somehow interpreted that way I'm sorry but you can always ask here for clarification the same way.

For what it's worth, I love therapy & worked in medicine for 2 decades. Therapy & coaching TAUGHT me to ask questions; it's part of my nature at this point to ask questions rather than assume anything. Comprehension, like you mentioned, is only enhanced by asking questions, right? It's explicitly why I asked.

Hope that helps better explain where I was coming from in asking about your comment. No worries, & Go Tigers!

If Tebow gets on the field, he will contribute positively.

May 20, 2021, 11:02 AM

And, I don't get all the negativity. It has been made quite clear that he is being signed as a TIGHT END, not a QB. He is just making the move now that he should have made in his first go round in the league. He may be 33, but he has a 25 year old body when it comes to taking NFL abuse. He is a workout freak, he WILL be in shape to play, that will not be an issue.

Likewise, for what it's worth.

We've become an "us against the world" culture here at Clemson & I get it, but I don't think I'll ever love it.

The idea of a pro football team with multiple & similarly-minded leaders from a moral & leadership position (not to mention their faith) frankly makes me tremendously excited.

The fact that it's happening with two of the most successful players in Clemson history is like 6-foot-thick icing on the cake. I see Tebow being so vastly more of an asset than a liability that it's hard to swallow the way so many of us have responded to him with such brutal negativity & pessimistic speculation, especially since a single football hasn't been snapped yet.

Yes, he still has to make the roster to play, but even if he doesn't make the roster I have a hard time seeing more negatives than overwhelming positives, if for nothing else than morale, leadership & mental conditioning.

Plus Tebow do have a lot of QB knowledge that could be a help to Trevor. Trevor didn't get to be where he is now by being stupid, and taking a lot bad information from people that hasn't walked in cleats, and he has already learned from some of the best!!!

Not to mention that being on the team Mr. Tebow will now get a first hand look at how wrong his comments about Trevor were. Not that I am a Tebow hater by any means.... I, for one, will patiently wait for his public correction regarding his comments about TL16. <img border=">

What exactly did he say that was so negative or wrong about Trevor Lawrence, in all sincerity?

We've never seen Trevor hit his ceiling, that's no secret, but I don't think that makes anyone wrong for talking about things like the deep ball accuracy percentages, for example, know what I mean? If you have a link or quotes from Tebow I'm sincerely curious, if nothing else.

76er, I completely agree. Assuming he makes the team (who knows), I am not sure how anyone can say (beyond his age) that he is not big enough, strong enough or fast enough, etc. to play TE. I would say that 6'3", 240+, with 10.5" hands, bench right at 400#, squats just under 700# and runs/ran a 4.7 40yard, has/had a 37.5 vertical.....is plenty good enough on the stat sheet to play tight end. Who the heck knows if he has the talent to play the position as he never played it, but his overall athletic ability is pretty dang good.

I've got an idea! Why don't we wait and see how he does before we pronounce him too old, too unfit, not tough enough, not skilled enough, etc. and then we will know. I and several others on here a pulling for him and hopes he proves those"nabobs of negativity" wrong. Of course, we know the reason that some many are pulling against him.

Re: TNET: Tim Tebow joins Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne in Jacksonville

May 20, 2021, 12:25 PM

He didn't play at Clemson so we are brutally pessimistic and critical I think is all there is to it. It often feels like the opposite message of the people we celebrate most, like Coach Swinney when he insists on us respecting SC State just as much as Auburn. Tebow is a champion. Doubting him never really seemed to make a lot of sense IMO, but I just can't understand how so many of us are so vocal about Tebow being detrimental to Trevor, of all people. It's strange.
