IF Oklahoma and Texas move to the SEC, and it appears that

Jul 22, 2021, 12:51 PM

will be the case, I hope the following dominoes fall in order of preference.

1. Notre Dame joins ACC full time and the ACC stays put at 15 teams, with no divissions. This would be the best financial situation for every team in the conference. It would also be best for scheduling.

2. If the writing is on the wall that every remaining power league is going to 16, then I really hope we land Notre Dame and West Virginia. West Virginia is the best option remaining outside of Notre Dame. Nobody else (Cincy, Central Florida) makes any sense.

3. If Notre Dame still refuses to join the ACC in full, we add West Virginia and stay at 15, with Notre Dame as a partial member.

4. Do not want to just stay put, but that would not be disastrous. WE have a good path to the playoff and Notre Dame gives some schedule credibility. Staying put, however, could cause a drop in recruiting.

5. Definitely do not want to add Cincy under any circumstances. It just sounds small time.

If OU and Texas leave the Big XII, that league is finished

Jul 22, 2021, 1:04 PM

and you may see other Big XII teams looking for a new home which may open some doors for the ACC.

If Notre Dame doesn't want to play ball, pi$$ on them. It's time for the league to stop kissing their a$$ and catering to them. Let's go get WVU, Baylor, Oklahoma State or TCU.

A school from Texas or Oklahoma in the ACC, interesting,

Jul 22, 2021, 1:17 PM

but I guess not any more geographically
incorrect than having them in the SEC or
having Notre Dame in the ACC

Good point. Is A&M going to happily welcome the longhorns into the SEC?

A&M is a team that really doesn't have to worry about the league payouts...would they be interested in making a switch?

It creates a bigger problem for the non-revenue sports...

Jul 22, 2021, 1:33 PM [ in reply to A school from Texas or Oklahoma in the ACC, interesting, ]

from a travel standpoint.

You're right. WVU has hated being in the Big 12

Jul 22, 2021, 1:55 PM

in every sport besides football because
of all the traveling which is especially
hard for midweek games.

When I was a student-athlete...

Jul 22, 2021, 2:05 PM

all of the non-revenue sports, pretty much without exception, rode on vans or busses to away games/matches. The only time I specifically recall flying anywhere was when we played in Seattle for the National Championship. Vans and busses aren't really feasible options if you're traveling from the east coast to Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa or Texas.

ND wont join and as such should have their ACC freebie terminated

Between Pitt, VT and UVA the small west virginal tv market is already covered meaning ESPN will not pay extra for adding WVA. If we add Cincinnati we add a big TV market which should mean extra revenue from ESPN based on more eyeballs.

So if we add couch burning school in West Virginia then we take current revenue and divide by 15 instead of 14 ways so the payout for each school would go down which makes it a no go. As a fan you may want to add one school and not another but its all about revenue.

Louisville is already right across the river from Cincinnati

Jul 22, 2021, 1:29 PM

I would say the ACC already has that market covered realistically too. I would say the best power move would be to go after OK St or TCU, put ND's feet to the fire about joining in full or get out. If they say no thanks then get the other team out of TCU or OK St not already taken in. Those teams open up truly new tv markets to the ACC.

Better check your map sir

Jul 22, 2021, 3:20 PM

Loserville is 2 hours from Cincy

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Consult a map...Louisville to Cincinnati = 2 hours drive.

Jul 22, 2021, 3:23 PM [ in reply to Louisville is already right across the river from Cincinnati ]

Completely different TV markets.

Completely different TV markets.

TV markets are not based on distance and these two are separate markets

From what I gather, the old metric of just adding another

Jul 22, 2021, 1:56 PM [ in reply to Re: IF Oklahoma and Texas move to the SEC, and it appears that ]

big state (Ohio if we add Cincy or Oklahoma or Texas for OSU and TCU) is not really where the money will be this time around. It is not really about simply adding a state for carriage fees. I have been seeing everywhere that this time around it is more about the following and fanbase of a school and how many fans will be streaming, or using the other platforms that are not based on carriage fees in the future. For that reason, I think Wet Virginia would be good. They have a strong follwoinng to help fill visiting stadiums and have many fans that would use these future platforms.

All true but academics.... I know, who'd think that would matter to some member schools....also would be weighed. Cincinnati might be better than WV in that area.

Cincinnati is actually very good academically.***

I think UCF makes a ton of sense for the ACC. I'd like to see ND and UCF.

Re: IF Oklahoma and Texas move to the SEC, and it appears that

Jul 22, 2021, 1:42 PM

Adding ND always makes sense if they're ever willing. I think if Texas and Oklahoma went to the SEC that it would make more sense to try and add TCU or Texas Tech and/or maybe Oklahoma State to try and get into those markets.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

wonder when the Dude of West Virgina is gonna weigh in?

Jul 22, 2021, 1:58 PM

Remember, he had critical insight during last realignment drama when he said Clemson and FSU were safely in the Big12 net.

Let's make it fun

Jul 22, 2021, 2:15 PM

add the real USC and Jacksonville State

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Let's make it fun

Jul 22, 2021, 3:23 PM

The first 2 we can get, in order:
1. Notre Dame
2. West Virginia
3. Kentucky
4. Penn State
5. A Florida school

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Let's make it fun

Jul 22, 2021, 5:26 PM

The only reason we would want Notre Dame is the money from TV rights

West Virginia- past few years
2019 5-7, 2018 8-4, 2017-7-6, I am not going all the way down- no big winning season

Kentucky??????? great whiskey, pretty country- but they suc. why would the SEC give up a punching bag?

Pen State- you just asking for trouble there- in my opinion.

If UCF- keeps up the winning ways- maybe- I mean we are already supporting Miami and FSU. We can't save all of Florida

I still vote INDEPENDENT- we play who we want- then nobody can argue the SOS.

Re: IF Oklahoma and Texas move to the SEC, and it appears that

Jul 23, 2021, 12:57 PM

Why does UCF not make sense? They are geographically perfect for the ACC, are a huge school, play very competitive football and that would increase with the resources of the ACC. I think UCF makes a ton of sense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: IF Oklahoma and Texas move to the SEC, and it appears that

Jul 23, 2021, 1:16 PM

All above seem like small-minded suggestions. TX and OU are not small additions. First the ACC has to decide what it wants to be.

If it wants to be a Power conference and really compete in football. Then act like it. Make UGA and Fla an offer they can't refuse. If that doesn't work try aTm, they will have motivation. USuC is better than the options presented above and they are probably ripe. Also give ND an ultimatum.

If you just want to be a basketball and academic conference with a few good football teams, or if none of the above works, then go after Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Kansas.

Forget all the small potatoes and think bigger, or keep doing what the ACC has always done, and be what they have always been.

Re: IF Oklahoma and Texas move to the SEC, and it appears that

Jul 23, 2021, 2:42 PM [ in reply to Re: IF Oklahoma and Texas move to the SEC, and it appears that ]

Why would we want a third Florida school to compete against in recruiting? That would be just in conference. Never mind the fact that Florida is gaining momentum with Mullen.

Personally it should be Notre Dame and WVU. Would rather have Penn St but too big of a financial loss moving from the B1G to ACC
