If Monte was still here what would our record be now?

What’s your opinion of where Monte would have taken this team?

I think we would have been better at the first of the season and would be losing more as we played better teams because the pitching gets better & Monte’s home run batters start striking out more rather than playing small ball when it’s needed.

What do think our record/ranking would be with Monte?

Of course we’ll never know but your scenario certainly seems plausible. I could be wrong but I don’t remember any of Monte’s teams getting better as the season progressed but I remember some of them getting worse. Ironically , kinda like the coots this year.

I agree with this opinion.

I can't recall a Monte team getting better. The 2016 ACC Championship under his tenure was a fluke. It started going downhill from there.

To be honest and with all due respect to Monte…Those were all Leggett’s boys that season…We had draft picks almost at every position on the field. Chris Oakey, Seth Beer, Weston Wilson, Eli White, Chase Pinder just to name a few.

Honestly the schedule was much tougher this year for Bakich than it was for Monte last year. The overall SOS and non conference SOS both show that. So with that in mind. Last year we finished with 35 wins. So I think a Monte led team this year would have finished with between 25-30 wins and probably a losing overall record. I don't see a Monte led team being any better than Bakich through the first 20 games and worse over the last 35 or so games. Certainly would not have seen a late season surge and most likely would have stumbled to a merciful finish. Just like the previous two seasons only worse.

A very good assessment. I'll add, we would have had Brewer, French, and maybe Ricky. But both French and Brewer would be playing. We wouldn't know what Cam could have done because he would only have had a PH or two if we even knew who he was.

Amick would still be riding the pine and striking out if he was still on the team. And we wouldn't have Bertram making plays at 2nd.

So, yes, we would be scrambling just to be in the acc tournament.

I went back through the schedule and guessed at 25-29

As of today.

I didn't break it down into ACC vs non conference but I'd say 2/3 of what I saw as extra losses were conference games so I'll go with 10-18 and on the outside looking in at the tournament.

Do not know. Do not care. That's water under the bridge.

What I do know (and do care about) is that our baseball team is playing great and is in good shape for a LONG time. The ship has been righted.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think it would have been as good as we are now

but I rooted for him while he was here and wish him all the best except while he coaches for the coots. ;)

I think this team would at best be around 500… Bakich gets the most out of these guys and plays to their strengths… and puts pressure on opposing defenses. Swinging for the fences every pitch and living and dying by track man is not sustainable unless you have a team full of first and second round draft picks. But imo what would have killed this team under monte is the fact that See would still be here and that’s where we would failed miserably. Bellanger has improved this staff like crazy through the year.

I liked Monte, and I was all in for Monte becoming our new HC, But, I could be wrong, but I believe that Bakich is a better all around baseball coach than what Monte Lee was/is....
