Cloth masks, surgical masks, or N95?? It sounds like the type doesn't matter -- a mask is a mask. That fact alone should be evidence that masks are purely theater. I'm not even bringing up the fact that most adults, much less kids, don't follow sterile technique when using them.
But let's see what the studies show...

Pickens started reporting numbers out daily, I think to

drive home the point of how quickly they were rising.
things around here (Clemson) have started to taper a bit. Edwards Middle school was the worse offender - 10% of the school tested positive in the first 3 weeks. But that's getting a little better, I think. Plus, they reinstated some safety protocols (spacing, eating lunch in classroom, not the cafe), and the elementary school in Clemson is masking now.
I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that things settles down after the initial spikes in the other districts too. Of course, the tornado warnings in Oconee and Anderson last week certainly didn't help their causes at all...

dhec chart.
Pickens exceeded their prior high from last Jan by around the same time...about 9 days into classes, so that matches up.
As of today's report we have Students: 232 positive (1.5%), 804 (5.1%) quarantined Teachers/Staff: 39 positive (1.7%), 89 (3.8%) quarantined
*Shown as total active count of in-person students? (15,825) or staff (2,349) population*

Shown as total active count of in-person students? (15,825) or staff (2,349) population Students Positive Students Quarantined 232 884 ...
We also have had 4 (or more) teachers and 1 student hospitalized. I think 2 teachers are still on vents. So there's that.

408 students currently infected out of over 28000 (according to District 1 website) 1.4% infection rate
75 staff currently infected out of over 3600 for a 2.1% infection rate
Is that bad?

exponentially, then...it's a problem. Also, the number quarantined will start to impact the ability to run the school.

Or teachers. It's 473 and 3,505 today. So that's about 14% of students not attend school in person. Don't think that counts the schools who went virtual, but a couple have done that as well.

If hospitals are getting maxed out, then the governor should do another lockdown until the hospitals are able to catch up.

These numbers assure we reach peak hospitalizations

ever.
We're at 2,192, and the record is just over 2,200. For some reason there's always a very high case count on Fridays, why I call it a document dump, old political trick, release bad news on Fridays, so the politicians can hide over the weekend and not address it until Monday. Not saying that's it, probably they can't keep up with cases, and then just dump them all on Fridays.
We won't lock down. But gosh, it would sure be nice if we did SOMETHING, ANYTHING. Wear a mask? Least intrusive, least economic impact, nope, can't.

I wonder why they don't tell us the % of positive vaccinated

cases vs unvaccinated.
It seems to me that this would be valuable information and may lead to people being more careful as far a masks etc. Right now the majority think that the vaccine has very high efficacy with regards to infection and this probably isn't the case.

The school districts, you mean?

In general, that has been a problem that across the board. the only folks being asked about vaccination status are those in the hospital, not the folks that test positive. So, unless DHEC/doctors is not collecting this information in follow up conversations - it seem difficult to collect.

It should be. I don't know what they asked at various places

that do testing. I supposed you have to fill out a form or something, right? Seems like that question should be added.
I use the community test site here at Clemson, and they had us register for a QR code at the start. So now when we submit our saliva sample, they scan our code and link it to the tube. So I don't have to fill out a form every time I got get tested. Unfortunately, we created those back in the day before vaccines were available. So that information is not tracked. And, as of last week, they were only asking if we were experiencing symptoms or just testing for screening purposes. Nothing about vaccination status.
Of course, I could also see them not wanting to ask since some folks get all huffy about it.
