If Brad stays is it pretty much saying Clemson...

Feb 10, 2022, 11:06 PM

Doesn't care about basketball?

Don't care or remember recent good times under Barnes and OP?

No one important there remembers the Slab 5, or beating Duke to get to the ACCT Championship game, or hosting top 10 matchups with Wake and Duke in the 74-47 route?

I think it is with a buyout that is just a little over $60k a year which is short change for Clemson...

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Another ignorant response about the Clemson basketball program. Yes, there it is. No it means they are sticking with the coach who has won the most games in Clemson history. The only coach to beat NC in Chapel Hill.

It's amazing how you forget that the ACC is the best basketball conference in all of the United States and beyond. Granted this year is not to the ACC standard and it might not make it that level since some of the most legendary coach is on his way out. (happy to see him leave!)

Now as far as Brad goes yes he makes some late game mistakes no doubt and last week was another one. What you are all over looking is the most important points at hand. The ACC is about to see a MAJOR change and its in full swing. There is a changing of the guard and the former Kings will no longer have the game that they once did.

There is room for new coaching leaders, not going to be legendary but they will be new and not from the normal schools of NC and Duke. Changing of the guard means the refs and there calls that seem to always favor Duke and NC will stop or at the least get cut down a #### load.

With all of this it would be wise for Clemson to stick with Brad for multiple reasons that I would think wouldn't need to be listed but since the majority on this board choses to hate on Brad and the basketball team I guess you might need to see it sense the negative clouds the truth just like in politics HA.

Recruiting: He has a big advantage with time he has as head coach. It's time for Brad to be aggressive towards the 4 and 5 stars and stop feeling the 3's out that is for the UNCW's and so on.

Coaching: Yes the late game mistakes I get it but those tend to fade especially when the refs end up calling a straight game. This can all change with more wins in the state of North Carolina.

Ethics: You have a man who is solid with ethics, can't say the same about Dean or Mike or even Rick Barnes. Those guys lack the ethics but act like they are the ones who invented them.

IT is going to take a coach who knows the ACC and has solid years with an organization. Now if Brad underachieves again next year then he will have blown a golden opportunity to rise against the cream. It won't need to be winning the division but it will be a 1-4 seed and making it to the final 8 to really accept a new future in the ACC and this division is up for grabs starting next year!

We’ve made it pretty clear.

We don’t care enough

Do we have a single big booster who wants to support BKB exclusively? Probably not

Yep, it is like any bot members who see each other the next day during water cooler stuff--

Wow great crowd at Littlejohn.

yeah it was. Duke too much for us.

Yes, glad their kid didn't get hurt.

Yeah, well saw a pole we are preseason top 5 in football.

Oh, please tell me...

Did anyone think we had much of a chance

Feb 11, 2022, 4:22 AM

of beating Duke with two of our 11 ppg starters injured or on the bench?

Hunter Tyson and Collins both out made it near impossible to get back in this game against Duke. I think we had a scrappy team this year, but we definitely have to have shooters on the floor to back up Hall. When we have had injuries, we tend to come up short.

How can bozos like you come on here and complain about mediocrity, while also bragging about how good we were under Purnell?

Purnell was mediocre. He couldnt win an ncaa tourney game.

At least we got there and had an identity. OP teams were not afraid of Duke or UNC, they brought the fight to them and acted like and played like they belonged and were not scared. BB teams have no identity and are very middle of the road in terms of attitude, not confident but not scared, perfectly taking on their coaches identity, just like all teams do.

Purnell went 4-19 against Duke and unc. It's crazy that so many people have inaccurate recollections of the OP tenure

Brownell has as many wins against Duke and unc in the last 4 years than Purnell he his entire tenure.

Ge also had almost twice as many seasons to do it. Do you know how bad it was when Shyatt was there? OP kept on getting better but it a took a fews years. Brad would have never been able to pull them out of Shyatt's in less than 6 years.

Yes, that has nothing to do with this conversation. Purnell's record vs Duke and UNC was bad as is Brownell's.

The poster said that OP's teams had confidence against Duke and unc, brought the fight to them, and acted like they belonged there whereas BB's teams do not.

That statement is very inaccurate and borderline delusional considering BB has had more success against the 2 teams. That is what I contested. Do you not agree? Or do you just want to argue something unrelated.

Lol. 3 NCAATs? That is not everything and there are Hall of farmers who have lost more than 3 straight. OP was classless how he left, but cant argue that he had us consistently winning. Call me when Brad goes to 3 straight NCAATs at Clemson? It will never happen...

Feb 11, 2022, 12:05 PM

OK.

Including this season Brad in the last 4 years is 64-49

1 NCAA and 1 NIT second round.

And OP's last 4 years at Clemson is 93-41

1 NIT Championship game and then 3 straight NCAAs.

Am I missing something?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can't discount the fact that it was two different ACCs

Feb 11, 2022, 12:17 PM

Purnell wasn't here during the expansion of adding Pitt, Syracuse,Louisville...Purnell was here during the old structure VT-BC-Miami.

The latest expansion was all about adding basketball powers to help bolster the league in BBALL. Which crowds the field and i think makes it harder to get pick as an ACC representative in the tourney. I didnt' think Brad was going to be able to keep us mid pack. I figured we would be lower quarter team after that.

All things considered he's done pretty good. Just hasn't had that signature season. Had some good moments but not enough for Tigernet I guess.

Coaches at Clemson

Feb 11, 2022, 10:40 AM

For all the comparisons, has anyone considered that Clemson has not had any great coaches during the modern era. A great coach can win prior to Clemson, at Clemson, and move to the the next level at the school that follows Clemson. So looking back, we had Cliff Ellis, some success at Clemson, and mostly middle of the road at Auburn. Barnes had Clemson in the top 5 without great talent, and then has had some success at both Texas (402-180, although he failed miserably at tournament time), and some success at Tennessee (140-79). The remainder have basically done nothing at a high level. Purnell was an absolute bust at DePaul and was 15 wins and 65 losses in the Big East in 5 seasons. Hardly a coaching genius. So, Barnes is the gold standard. We need to find a coach that can replicate his results and get Clemson to the point of being competitive. BB will be a bust at his next stop BTW. Not looking for Dean Smith but out of the hundreds of coaches at smaller and mid tier programs we should be able to find a lone candidate willing to double or triple their salary.

I remember when we hired BB from Wright State

Feb 11, 2022, 12:11 PM

I didn't think he was a homerun hire then either. But I was like, eh, let's wait and see.

I think we've waited long enough.

Re: If Brad stays is it pretty much saying Clemson...

Feb 11, 2022, 11:02 AM

Yes it will say that our administration and bot only care about off court performance. Like you i am through with mediocrity in our baket ball program.
Set a goal: top 25 every year and if that is not attained thenmaking the tourney of 66, yes 66, teams should be the minimum acceptable performance level.
