spectrum (panic vs ignoring) are acting irrationally and irresponsibly.
Most people are striking a sensible balance between these two extremes.
I think it is important that we don't let ourselves get upset or thrown out of balance from the headlines screaming or the hyperbolic reactions of the few.

At some point, we own our reactions.

Sure, there may be manipulative voices out there. But we have the responsibility to listen, to think, and to apply the information properly. If we did that, we'd probably indeed strike that balance.
I have zero inclination to panic or do something drastic. But at the same time, to dismiss the virus as nothing, comparing it to other viruses, etc., seems callous towards the *many* senior citizens I associate with, who probably do have some worry. We had a positive come up in Kershaw county, just one county over, and that person is currently being treated mere yards from where my wife works. So it's something to think about, and to take seriously.

Apply Trump's information at your own risk.

I'm not doing anything special. I made a Sam's run, which we needed, restocked the freezer, which was needed, stocked up with a larger than normal grocery run. Topped off office supplies for home office. Bought 2 bottles of bourbon. I'm set. I can work from home, be sick from home, or keep working hopefully as normal like now.

say anything on this topic. I've leaned more guidance from more local sources. I haven't really "changed" much, except I'm more keenly aware of putting my hands on my face, and washing hands, things like that.

....best to leave it at that.
I'm paying attention to Henry McMaster, DHEC, and whatever they say on the local news.
But I will go ahead and step out on a limb: STAY OFF CRUISE SHIPS. PERIOD. Seriously, doesn't matter if you're healthy, or whatever. Unless you want your 3 day cruise to be a 2 week stay locked in your cabin, and end up two more weeks on a cot sleeping in a tent at an airbase in BFE Georgia....just don't go on a cruise. No one knowledgeable or in authority has made that simple recommendation, but I will go ahead and at least put that out there. It is more than reasonable.

Very well said. It seems like just numbers until, like you said, I think of my wife getting it or my older brothers.
I'll be happy when this thing moves on.

I am treating it like the flu....which it is.

wash my hands more during the cold and flu season.
I have sanitizer on my desk and on my table between my visitor chairs in my office.
I wipe down surfaces with Lysol wipes once per day
our cleaning staff also increases sanitation efforts in our office space.
I rarely if ever shake hands with anyone anyway. I will fist bump.
At the beginning of this flu season we instituted an elbow bump as a greeting.
I hate people so I dont congregate that often anyway. Hope this is over before football season.
and I took the flu shot
But guess what..
Still got the flu.
Son of got flu B and I got Flu A. No one else in the house got either.
He got his from school. I got mine from a sales call from someone from St. Louis. They probably picked it up on the plane.
short of self quarantine and pulling the kids out of school, we are all going to be exposed to germs.

Agreed. Silly to downplay this as less than the flu; ridiculous to think it's the end of the world.
