How not to get shot by a cop:

Jul 7, 2016, 4:05 PM

1. Obey the law
2. Don't carry weapons
3. Listen to the cop's commands, then do what he/she says to do.
4. Be polite and respectful.
5. Keep your hands visible.
6. Don't reach for stuff. If you need to, tell them what you are reaching for and where you are reaching, then ask if it's ok by them.
7. Don't argue, fight with, be disrespectful to, or run from a cop.
8. Make sure you are with people that will follow these same directions.

I think this pretty much covers all races.

police state. And don't carry weapons, even if you are licensed to do so. The cops won't be there to protect you in case you need it, but you're living in a police state now, so no worries.

you folk from getting shot by a cop.

And Imma go out on a limb and say that FAR more folks are shot accidentally than folks that avoid getting shot because they are carrying a gun in they pocket with a sweet CCP and they whip it out and save lives.

CONFESSION: I HAVE ZERO DATA TO SUPPORT THIS AND WON'T BE ARGUING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I'M WATCHING THE EUROS.

I think the better advice is that if you're going to carry a

weapon, just don't tell the cops about it. Or, we could just give up all of our constitutional rights so they don't shoot us. That sounds.....American

Almost impossible to do. Those license plate lights have a nasty habit of getting shorts in the wiring.

But it's my constitutional right.

See above video.

Kinda hard to reach for that stuff when doing it.

What is this? Germany?

No argument here.

No one wants to hang out with camcgee.

I'd have to say that running from a cop should not be grounds for being shot in the back. No matter what contrived reasoning for "protecting the public" from harm is brought about.

If you shoot someone in the back in a home invasion after they've raped your whole family, you're going to prison. The same should apply to cops.

I'm in agreement with most of this

Jul 7, 2016, 4:18 PM [ in reply to Re: How not to get shot by a cop: ]

and I guess there are exceptions, but not many.

I'd argue that a right to bear arms is a bit different than I SHOULD CARRY ONE IN MY POCKET ALL THE TIME BECAUSE 'MURICA.

I'm not judging those that do carry though.

Don't carry permits require a demand for immediate...

Jul 8, 2016, 6:50 AM [ in reply to I'm in agreement with most of this ]

announcement to cops that you have the permit and a weapon if your gun is with you? Anyone with a lick of sense would ask for permission to get their license and registration and gun permit at first opportunity to speak.

I don't think cops shoot people who have a gun unless they are stupid enough to reach for the gun instead of their paperwork.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would think it would be common sense

Jul 8, 2016, 9:30 AM

that if you had a gun in the car, legal or not, and you got pulled over and felt like the reason was because of a simple traffic violation or some other reason unknown the last thing you would want to do is announce that you have a gun in the car the second the cop walks up to the window. If they do not ask you do not say anything. If the officer didn't ask whether or not he had a weapon in the vehicle there was no reason for him to announce that he did and put the officer on alert to where any strange movement could have indicated him going for his gun. I asked an officer one time whether or not when they pull someone over if they would rather the person in the vehicle announce they had a gun even if not asked or just kept quiet. His answer was if they don't ask do not tell them, they do not want to know if you are acting normally. He said if you announce you have a gun without being questioned that is sketchy behavior and they will be on heightened alert whether you are acting strangely or not and can lead to incidents just like this one to where things can get out of hand.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think the holders of carry permits must divulge that...

Jul 8, 2016, 10:54 AM

to an officer of the law when stopped. One positive it allows him to know that you're qualified to carry a gun by passing a criminal background check. Cops understand carry laws. It also give him the opportunity to examine the weapon to see if it is registered.

Cops have rights too. They have a right to see your permit since they get authority from the same source that allows us to carry a weapon, the people of the United States. They have a more than just the right to examine your guy because they are sworn to uphold the law by ensuring the weapon is legal. The last thing you want to do to yourself is promote or allow a cop to feel threatened. How long would we last on a job where we continuously felt physically threatened? That is the only common sense approach to dealing with an officer of the law. Making him mad so one can vent his personal feeling is well...stupid and careless.

They do not have the right to execute you or impose other punishments because those obligations are the sole power of the judge. A cop may suggest a fine on a piece of paper but the max and min is set by law. The judge may impose a variance from the cop's recommendation but not outside the limits of the law.

No matter what happens on the streets the judge has the final say. A cop is a representative of the judge. Who do you think the judge is going to side with if there's any question about a traffic stop? People should use their heads not their emotions when dealing with a cop. Allow him to do his job and if you're innocent and really smart help him by telling him the truth, especially if your lie is going to be obvious.

When someone tells me an obvious lie I consider three possible reasons. They think I'm stupid, they think they are smarter than me and have a better understand of circumstance than me or they just have so much contempt for me that they believe I don't deserve the truth.

And yet, this stuff almost never happens

Jul 7, 2016, 4:23 PM [ in reply to Re: How not to get shot by a cop: ]

And in most of the situations where the cops do end up shooting, it's because someone was resisting arrest. That doesn't make it any better when the police mess up, but it's silly to make it sound like people are constantly at risk of being shot by police.

right to bear arms? Do I understand your question correctly?

If so, I'm not real sure how "don't carry weapons" would lead you to this conclusion.

So here's your answer:
I am in favor of the 2nd amendment. I like having the right to bear arms. I bear a number of them myself. I don't think it's useful for people (other than police and military who are on the job) to just walk around with guns/weapons. This causes more problems than it does provide solutions to problems. That's why I think this.
